its beginning to feel like xmas..............

well weather's been rainy now (as per what it usually is last time in Dec in SG) so its kinda cooling and all...
that and plus next week i will be on leave the whole week does help :)
we'll be having the folks over on Xmas eve for some gift exchange and xmas dinner. Then my frens are coming over on 26th for some boardgaming and get-2-gather fun. Then 31st there will probably be a meal as its mom's birthday! Then 1st Jan 2010 my colleagues are coming over for some boardgame fun as well..

*PHEW*... so many things happening and it ought to be fun fun fun!

2010... what will it hold for me?
well at the v.least we'll be in USA (San Fran with josee + partner) and also tokyo :)
Can't wait to watch Wifey's musical and the character she is playing :p :p :p
ought to surprise a LOT of pple!

what's been happening?

well,
1) xmas tree is up. It was first time experience for me buying the xmas tree, bringing back, setting up, trying to keep it alive and all that...
Every morning we'll find that the tree had "shedded" and have to clean up the floor. We are also trying to keep it from turning totally Brown or "botak". lets just hope it survives till xmas at least! *cross fingers*

2) Comet bit serene and me. Serene more seriously (blood n stuff) me not so (i got thicker skin).... we reason it could be the grooming as he was quite uncooperative (easily spooked and new environment) and thus i had to help out in the muzzling and was there with him the whole time...
Funny thing is, my parents' maid is staying with us and during this whole time, Comet's been very nice to her.. following her around everywhere and all that. Even sleeping in the kitchen cos she is doing most of her stuff there. Fickle pet! tsktsk

3) We finished TRU BLOOD season 1 and its certainly very interesting show. Reminds me of like X-files meeting Desperate housewives. The books seems to be interesting though but we have way too many books in the backlot to be buying anymore. In other news, GLEE season 1 is over and we are left wondering what Sue will try next to get back @ Shue. Certainly a very entertaining show so far...

4) Just So - wifey's been busy practising and my god, its a lot of hard work. I hope the team can more or less get into a rhythm so that when school reopens she will not be overstressed with school work AND the musical!

5) Broadway Beng - what can i say.. its F-A-R-N-I :p thoroughly enjoyed it. Wished mom and dad were around in SG so that they can go watch too as i am quite sure they will appreciate it. Oh and Sebastian is directing wifey's musical! :)

6) anything else? quite a lot of stuff's happening. This month's going to be quite fun as there are so many activities (parties, weddings, gatherings etc) to attend to... going to be fun fun fun

AND hectic :)

Have a merry dec everyone!

sittin' on the dock of the bay...

that's what i'd like to be doing right now.

the hubby's away with his mom in Japan, the dog's away at my mom's, and i'm home alone, wondering how the hell i'm going to get through the week of a crazy-ass number of papers yet to be done but all due at the same time.

i'm home alone because it's a choice i made, to feel closer to the hubby. being alone is my coping mechanism.

my family offered me a bed at their place but after one night of restless sleep, i decided to come back home, even though it means shuttling to and from buangkok to fulfill some of my duties as a mommy to my little boy called comet.

i can't quite be around people if my hubby isn't around because it makes me miss him more. we both just genuinely love spending time with each other that if i were having fun, i'd wish he were here having fun with me. he told me last night that while he was watching a summary of "wicked" at universal studios japan (but it's all in japanese), he was wishing i were there with him because that was the first musical we watched together on our honeymoon to new york.

so i'd much prefer to stay in our home alone, and try to get some work done in my favorite environment.

i call our place home, because even though my hubby's not here, his presence lingers in his clothes, mug, and big stack of boardgames in the reading room.

i do miss him so. even if he's just gone for the week.

now i'm wondering if going on exchange would still be a good idea.

ramble ramble.

i met someone.....

its true....
i met someone....
that can please me in the nether regions like i never felt before...
that makes me wet with varying strengths...
that blows me in areas no one has ever done before....

i met someone in Japan....

its the Toilet-that-cleans-you-and-then-blows-your-areas-and-then-provides-deodourising-power

it even puts up the toilet seats for you!
and if you have not felt how good warm seats are when you are doing the poopoo... you are missing out!

Trick or Treat!

saw a comic clip today where a character asked his sister how does his vampire outfit look and she proceeded to comment on it basically saying that it doesn't look like anything from the movie Twilight.
Heh.... with all the movies and new perspectives of how horror characters should look like, do you think there will be a change in the costumes that we will see for Halloween?

food for thought :P

OMG, they killed Kenny! You B@st@rd$ !

Life and death. Its part and parcel of our existence. We face it everyday and in essence, most games revolve around this concept. Characters in games often die to be revived later on (either via save game or respawn mechanism). After a while, dying in a game doesn't seem that much of a big deal any more (other than the loss of gold/currency/items).
However what happens when real-life deaths cross the threshold and into the game realm? There have been several cases where the gamers themselves have met with unfortunate demise and in turn, their ongame characters are no longer "alive". A common response to this now has seen friends made online and real life friends hold memorial services for their fallen comrade in the game itself. Some game companies create game items to immortalise their clients/customers/fans.

Someone should do a study or paper that investigates and research on life and death between the real world and the game world. Interesting no?

Geekdom

As I enjoy my latest hobby of Boardgaming, i find myself drawn to the creative side of this. That's right, there's a creativeness when it comes to this hobby. You see people creating their own sets, boards, figurines or beautifying out-of-box pieces. I did that too with my Galaxy Trucker spacemen. That probably increased my geekdom by 1 point. When i get my Chaos of the Old World, i wonder, will i indulge in my geekdom and paint the figurines?
here are some cool things of the boardgames i have that pple do *BRAVO fellow boardgamers* ;p

What it should have been

i was looking around at stuff i would like to buy when i go to japan when i came across MACROSS toys.
Now macross (or Robotech) is about aliens and humans and robots which totally memerized my generation (well most of us anyway :p ) and spawned many toys and series.
One interesting to note is that the timeline it was set was in 2009. In the show, on 7th feb 2009, we would have launched our FIRST Space Defence Fortress spaceship. Instead, where we are now, we are still thousands of years away.

Some series of Gundam is now set in 2034... so 25 more years to go before we see giant robots and epic space battles? I think wait long long more....

I guess the next generation of animes must set a further timeline than before and hope and dream that we will make it there by then....

we can only hope and dream i guess? :)

Little moments

little moments that make me burst out in laughter:

Comet, sitting there minding his own business when he lets out a fart.
Comet, frantically looking at his butt as if wondering "hey now... what did u just do?"
Comet, sniffing eagerly at the fart and then, back to minding his own business.

:)

a new toy

lets see, this past long weekend was quite fun for me.
Fri i was on leave and went to watch 9 with wifey. The show was kinda below our expectation so kinda bummer for us. I think perhapes the movie couldn't tell all the details that will satisfy our curiosity. oh well.
Sat we met up with frens for dinner @ Novena and had ice cream @ Udders again. Did u know they have a make-your-own-ice-cream-cum-buffet session? So cool :D
Sun some frens came over and we had a game of Galaxy Truckers (i won :) ) and we played the newly bought Beatles Rock Band for PS3. Its so colorful and i felt that it lent the hippie mood. was a good buy for us. The frens were around for Comet's training and it was an eye-opener for them i believe.
mon we went for a wedding lunch at ONE-Degree-Fifteen. First time there and it gives the feeling of exclusivity. Though the professionalism of the staff there kinda dampens that feeling. Food was quite good and its nice to see my "mei" joining the "club" heheheh
Then we went to Vivo to get my new toy! NIKON D300S *GRIN* now i have to figure out how to use it in time for my Nov trip to Japan with mom.
Finally, we had a wonderful dinner at Magarithas (never fails to make it a good time for both wifey and me) and back home again.
Wifey's gonna be pretty busy these few days and i hope she won't get too stressed over school work.. meanwhile i'm doing what i can at home to keep things running

hehehheh :)

29-08-2009

Interesting sharing my bd with the King of Pop... esp since he just recently passed on. Pity another legend has left us all too soon.

So my bd started off with a surprise from the wifey. As always she has a knack for springing surprises on me. But this time i almost caught her off guard as she rushed off outside near midnight to prepare the cake for me. A little bell rang in my head that she might be onto something and i stormed out and caught her in the midst of preparing :D
It was definitely nice nevertheless ahahha..

Next day we spent mostly at parents-in-laws place as i helped wifey a bit in her packing her stuff. Parents-in-laws are moving and so we need to take what wifey wants and now our storeroom-cum-bomb shelter is packed again.
Evening we, family-in-laws and my parents + my grandma had a all-too-full dinner @ THE LINE @ Shangrila where my birthday discount (33%) came in handy. There were a lot of food and the food were quite good but i think it was the desserts and the birthday cake that did me in. I was feeling overbloated after that. Still it was definitely a good place to try out.

Sun cleaned the house in the morning in preparation for my gang coming and i accidentally stepped on Comet which triggered him to bite me in my toes so i got a deep hole in the webbing between 2 toes :(
But the day was still good as i got my usual boardgaming gang over and we had quite a lot of fun. We played Small World, Ticket To Ride, Pit and Murderer (or Polar bear). Pit and Murderer never ceases to amaze me in terms of how much fun the group generally has. Though the game dynamics are rather simple, i think its the group that will make it a good or bad experience :)

so all in all, a very exciting BD weekend
Hurrah!

where have all the young men gone?

ZombieNewsNetwork (ZNN) ~ Singapore: Last night zombies caught and killed 2 school boys. Even though the town heroes had finished off 12 zombies, the screams of the school boys destroyed all hope and resolve the remaining heroes had left and with heavy hearts they had to abandon the town before the sun set in.

Eyewitnesses say that the boys attempts to fend of the hungry undead were pitiful and ineffective. The lack of weapons in the school and gym definitely contributed to their demise.

Billy's high school love, Sally, was last seen with the boys. She is still missing but presumed eaten.

The Sheriff did his best, calling upon his law enforcement skills to put down most of the zombies

Jake, later commented on his harrowing experience, saying "They were all over me! At one time 4 of them were right in my face and i thought i was done!"

No zombies were available for comment.

lost husky found around bukit batok area

an uncle at our condo found a non-sterilized male husky at the malay coffee shop area outside our place.

this boy seems to be about 3-4 years old, has greyish-cream coat, and odd-eyes - one light blue, and the other brown.

the uncle suspects the owner is someone who used to live at the madeira.

we think we know who the owner is but don't have his name or contact number. he may be someone who has moved out of the condo to somewhere nearby, and has rented his place here out.

the owner may have spoken to us before because he visits the condo occasionally, and would say hi to us and tell us about his husky.

the last time we saw him, we were in the function room, and he came in for a chat before going to the gym. that was around the chinese new year period.

the owner doesn't seem like the sort who would abandon his dog as he spoke of his husky with such affection.

we hope he reads this post, and come to claim his beautiful boy.

in the meantime, we'll try to locate the owner through other means.

heheh its fun though doing all this for her... and as much as she loves what i've done, i love it just as much too!

my name is luka...

i live on the second floor
i live upstairs from you
yes i think you've seen me before
if you hear something late at night
some kind of trouble some kind of fight
just don't ask me what it was
just don't ask me what it was

just don't ask me what it was.

- luka, suzanne vega.

life with snuffy hubby and the little one has presented me much opportunity to blog.

there've been so much happiness within our little household that's been hard to contain within these four walls.

but i've often wonder how i'd blog about those occasions, or instances, without sounding blissfully ignorant. again, i started to dislike my joyful writing.

so i stop myself from doing so whenever i get the impetus to write when i'm happy. i rationalize that the world could use more reflection than my happy thoughts. i contradict myself, since i love to read snuffy hubby's random posts about our little one's gas extravaganzas.

i decided to blog today after baking two batches of cupcakes for the colleagues at RIJC, because i haven't been able to shake some irritating memories that resurfaced after watching an episode of the Oprah show.

it was on partner abuse. and i found myself nodding at every point Oprah and her expert guest made about the warning signs of escalation.

yes, i'm a victim of partner abuse. he came before snuffy hubby. and i'm sick and tired of keeping quiet and letting some people think that he was the victim.

i'm breaking my silence in hopes that victims of abuse may find this useful and perhaps find a way to break the cycle.

1) When your friend tells you she is being abused by a partner, chances are, she is.

when your friend tells you this, listen to her. listen to what she's saying in its entirety before offering words of your own. and please, don't ever question her perception of 'abuse'.

when i confided in a few girlfriends about the things my abusive ex did to me, some of them doubted the truth of my words. they knew my ex from the same crew of people, and somehow refused to believe he was capable of such things. they were still extremely skeptical when i detailed the abuse to them.

i stopped talking to them, and wondered if anyone else would believe me.

i can imagine why people wouldn't. after all, many knew me as an unshakable, confident person, who would have no qualms about leaving a relationship that wasn't going to work out. but an abusive partner can tear even the strongest spirit apart, because you've already given him your heart. and in order to make the relationship work, you will do whatever it takes to make him happy.

2) He starts to keep tabs on you.

these people start off as real charmers, who would be everything you want them to be.

as soon as they gain your trust and love, they start their little mind games that befuddle you to no end.

i was working around chinatown, and he worked at harborfront. before we got together, i had the occasional lunch with some friends who worked around the area. of course, i didn't think things needed to change just because i was attached. but he called one day, and i told him i'll be meeting L and C for lunch. he seemed okay with it, then hung up after a few minutes of chatting. he called back almost immediately to demand why i didn't ask him to join us for the outing, to which i replied that it would be rather inconvenient for him to come down to our area given such short notice, and that we could always arrange another lunch outing. he started to question if i didn't want him around because i was hiding something from him. i was really weirded out but said that if he really wanted to join us, he could. then he said i wasn't sincere about it, and hung up.

there were many such incidences, and he would accuse me of preferring to spend time with my friends than him...when he knew those friends as well! and he would forbid me to go for certain group outings because he felt certain guys in that group were interested in me. he obviously did not trust me, and when i confronted him about the trust thing, he said matter-of-factly that i had to EARN his trust.

3) By acceding to his requests for company and less of that with your friends and family, you start to distance yourself from those who really matter.

you may not think it's deliberate, but he is isolating you from your support system so you'll perceive him as your sole source of support.

i had gone to a counselor to try to help him with his anger management issues, and she told me about a woman who, after many years of abuse, decided to get out of the household. she said she didn't know how to leave her husband because she distanced herself from her friends and family after they kept persuading her to leave him. when she finally got the courage to do so (she still had to do it while he was out), the support center found her a shelter to go to. less than a week into it, she went back to her husband. she probably felt so alone that even though she knew what awaited her return, she still went back to him because he was the only person she had who would even bother to care about her.

my ex had somehow managed to make me feel so horrible about myself that i actually started to believe him when he said he was the only person who could tolerate being with someone like me.

sounds like an obvious deal breaker, but my self-esteem was so low that i believed him.

4) He wants you to own up to things that he insists you did, but you know you didn't.

he wanted to know how many people i've been with before him, and doubted the number i gave him. he had his own take on the number of relationships i've had, and forced me to "admit" it, and said he just wanted to know, and then we can move on from that.

there is no moving on from such nonsense. once they get you go admit something, they'll latch on to that nugget of information and use it against you for the rest of your relationship. and most of the time, you own up to things you have never done purely because you want to move past the questioning and get on with your life. and you trust that once you give in, he will forget about it and move on. fat chance.

5) Jealousy.

jealousy is not a virtue, even though some may feel it to be. some people think it's nice to have their partners be a tad bit possessive because they then feel they belong to them.

i used to salsa. a lot. and so did he. and since we met on the dancefloor, i thought we both loved the dance so much that we'd continue social dancing even after we got together.

i had to teach classes for most nights, so he would go social dancing at the salsa club while waiting for me. on nights when i suggested going to the club to dance a little, he would say that i'd rather go dancing than spend time with him alone. and even as he reluctantly agrees to go to the club at times (it was a rare occasion for me already), he'd restrict the people i danced with. i had to give up dancing with so many of the people i used to salsa with.

6) He abuses you.

many people think of abuse as physical. physical abuse is visible, hurts, and should never be tolerated.

but emotional and mental manipulation is abuse too. and most times, people can't tell if someone's been emotionally downtrodden from this until it's too late. this was what my ex did to me.

he also physically restrained me from leaving the room, the house on many occasions. at times, he'd lock me in the room. fearing for my safety, i'd give in to whatever he wants...and most times, it's about admitting to things i didn't do.

there was this one time he physically restrained me and i struggled under his grip. when he released me, there was a bruise on his arm and he said that i whacked him. imagine, he still managed to turn it on me.

we were on holiday once and he had accused me of not caring for his feelings, and that i should've done this and that...and when i walked towards the door to head out, he pulled me back and pushed me onto the floor so hard that my head hit the ground. at that point, i wished i would just black out and not wake up to go through what was coming.

i left him right after we returned to singapore.

he stalked me for a while and even came to my parents' house, climbing up the gas meter to reach my window (i stayed in an HDB executive mansionette on the 10th storey). he even tried to turn my parents on me, telling them family issues i told him in confidence. unfortunately for him, he failed to realize how close i was to my parents still, and they knew everything i told him.

my parents struck down everything he said, and told him to quit bothering me again. they did it with such style but that's another story.

one more thing. he used religion against me, saying that i was the horrible person i was because i wasn't christian.

before we even got together, i had informed him of my stand on religion and asked if it was going to be an issue. he said it wouldn't be.

my parents obviously had a field day with that comment because they go to the same church as him.

this list isn't exhaustive, but i hope you can take something away from the experiences i've shared.

don't let yourself be sucked into the cycle, because it never ends, no matter how much he promises you it will.

and it happens to men as much as it happens to women.

take care of yourself. there's a lot more to life than dealing with people who believe they're the only ones who can deliver us from ourselves.

and thank you, snuffy hubby, for being a good friend through my whole ordeal.

Panda and Simon as well, for believing in me, and standing up for me.

i realize this is far from good writing but, for the first time, i don't care.

Mickey! Transform!

and yes he transforms into the truck with little mickey drivin' :)

WAY COOL.....

me wants............ hahahaha

A note from the past

Finally manage to find info about this game from boardgamegeek.com. This is one of the first few boardgames i ever played. My cousins from my dad's side had this game and i remember playing it. Little did i realise now when i look at the information etc that its a game where Singapore is the main emphasis! So cool!
I remember i did have quite some fun at this (esp with the little boats and stuff).. would be interesting to see if someone revives this since, well, its based on Singapore...
maybe the PSA?

Dreamin....

Do dogs dream?

and if they do, what do they dream?
Our Comet often has dreams when he's sleeping..
he will make little whelps and barks,
eyes wil flicker
and legs will often move as if having fits...

i hope he's not dreaming of bad things....
often we will wake him up and he will have that semi-dazed look...

i do hope we are not waking him from sweet dreams though

:p

oh he's awake... time to bring him down to pee pee poo poo

Wanna be startin' something

so the whole world is wondering about what has happened to MJ. Me too. Did u know we both share the same birthdate? but i guess that's where the similarities end (i don't have his billions :p). The last time i saw him for real was when he was in SG many eons ago for his concert at the national stadium. Dad and mom bought us the real expensive tickets and i had a Cap and Tshirt... wonder where they are now....
Anyway... wherever he may be, i hope he finds peace there and surrounded by good feelings :)

Wifey just finished her Shine launch last sat and i was there to help out wherever i can.
Some highlights:
a) its so tiring to be on your two feet most of the time on a sat. I am not young anymore! *sob*
b) Wifey's scout boys are really the best. They do things professionally and sui sui and are proactive. Definitely something to think about considering their upbringing and against some of those from better backgrounds.
c) Mary Jane Project is good. Really fun to hear them play their stuff. And their drummer is very charismatic too! would love to see them perform some time....
d) Having good Emcees at an event is very vital. During the event there was some "dead air" time due to technical difficulties and the Emcees were very good in keeping the crowd entertained or filling the time till things could be resolved.
e) a good attitude is to have fun but remain professional about your work. it helps gives a good impression about you and the quality of work you represent.

that's about it....
:)
wifey's way overdue for an update *GRIN*

Autobots, TRANSFORM!

www.weareautobots.com
u need to install something + have a webcam :)

Breed all about it..

Our little Carpet i mean Comet has been the star of my in-laws lives. Bringing them lotsa joy, sometimes sighs and moans but mostly joys :p. Not only them, but their relatives as well are often bemused by what Comet does or behaves.
Nowadays, Comet has developed a new set of skills.... Farting... and Burping. Yes he has now gotten the traits of his parents (no points for guessing who farts n who burps! heeeheee) and even those little sounds of gas tickles us to no end.
and the beach.... man Comet sure loves the beach... often bounding into the sea when unleashed.
I am glad for that :)
Hopefully this sun we'll be able to bring him down too and let him have his time in the sun (oh if anyone wants to join us let us know!!!)

now if only he can buff up n look like all those other Huskies u see everywhere.... :p

doggie wise we have signed up for the advanced training... so here's hoping that Comet can fetch soon!

Then sun is again another day of fun fun fun :)

Just truckin, truckin away.....

so... yesterday i invited 2 of my cousins over for a boardgaming session. And boy, did we board game.
here's what was covered:

2 games of Galaxy Truckers
~ Wifey won once. Can't rem who won the 2nd one
1 game of Red November
~ sub sank. we lost!
1 game of Dominion
~ Draw between me and my cousin
1 game of Small World
~ i won with abt 110 points
1 game of Ticket To Ride: Europe
~ Wifey won convincingly

so all in all we had a great night. Comet was quite good just snuggling between our legs or alternating between trying to get our attention and playing with his squeaky toy himself.

Tomorrow i will be receiving my last batch of board games (hopefully for this year) :p
So i will be getting Colosseum and Galaxy Trucker + the expansion. Wifey loves Galaxy Trucker (esp the cute spacemen) and i hope to get in some games with her + eugene once i get it!

Spaceward, HO!

i'm part of a plan, apparently. =)

i'm quite a disappointing co-author of this blog.

ever since things started getting hectic, i've stopped blogging, procrastinating at every of the hubby's reminder to do so.

in my defence, i've really been too tired to do more writing than i need to.

on the other hand, i'm usually the one with way too many opinions and emotional clout to express...so i really should start blogging again.

i sniggered slightly when steve said he's a big fan of our blog's, and that my lack of entries have been rather disappointing.

so here i am...with a summary of events till now.

1) i didn't do too badly for my exams, but not well either. i deserved my grades though, so i should stop whining. =P

2) i was offered to be a teaching assistant for the next new york business study mission in term 2. but given the current flu situation and the first case coming from the current batch of NY BSM students, i'm highly doubtful that i'll be making that trip next year. it's a bummer, but i guess the cancellation makes sense.

3) after my exams, i was offered an internship position under the MOE Teaching Internship program. i got posted to RI(JC), so here i am...serving my summer break out in the college. i haven't done much at all, with the most exciting bits being the common test invigilation and taking over one of my mentor's classes while she was on mc.

4) i'm seriously considering going on exchange in during the spring semester but am still exploring places to apply to. this may work out considering the new york trip would most probably be canceled.

this reads like a laundry list of stuff, but i'm way too sleepy now for a good write.

i'll do so when i've got a clearer head.

thanks snuffy hubby for filling in the blanks while i was gone. =)

Pooot...

no.. not me... its my dog.
if you didn't know, dogs fart.
Yes they do.....
and i had the chance to hear Comet fart like 3 times. Twice in the lift and once at the lift lobby.
its a soft Pooooot that he does. But his reaction to it is very much priceless.
he will swing his head to his butt area and proceed to sniff around as if to wonder

"What on earth was that?
Was it from me?
Hmmmm smells interesting...."

:)

on a more serious note...

wifey's starting her teaching stinct @ RJ tml! I hope she has fun! :)

HK has that acid attack @ Mongkok. Seems this wasnt a first time! OMG. N we were just walking there just 2 wks ago! OMG.. that would have totally gimped our holiday.

the H1N1 virus seems to be getting hotter.... so many cases reported in Japan.... what on earth is happening ?!?!?!?!

its a SMALL WORLD after all!

so today was my planned boardgame session with my salsa mates and boy was i in for a surprise this morning when i could go down to Bugis to pick up my copy of SMALL WORLD before the gaming session.
We played 3 games ( i played one 2-v-2 with eugene before they came) of Small world, 1 game of Last Night on Earth (wifey and celestine and dylan and eugene played 1 game of dominion) and 1 game of Citadels (wow this one a long time we never played liao.....)
I am so glad i bought Small World. Its quite fun (think of it like Risk but faster) and unfortunately i did not win most of the time (except for that match with Eugene). Overall, my frens took to it quite fast and, pity its only 5 players.
Last Night on Earth was kinda messy (even though its like my 2nd time playing it) and the rules are fuzzy for me. I don't think i'll be buying this one so... oh well.. no zombie games then.
I am looking forward to Colosseum and Galaxy Trucker. Maybe in another 2-3 wks i can ask the gang over for another BG session! :)

Yay.... fun for all!

so......

ok... some brief updates :)
in HK

well we had a lot of fun here... met up with my ex colleagues had a wonderful dim sum (the desserts were wonderful!) and got to shop around. I think i had the most haul (work clothes, pants, toys etc) and wifey got a damm cool new pair of sneakers. Met up with my ex-school mates too and that was really fun! had a nice meal, some drinks and then the next day had a heavy seafood dinner with Steve. The swine flu thing hasnt really impacted HK that much as only a handful of people are wearing masks. But throughout the evenings i was in HK, my sinuses were acting up. Maybe something to do with the smoking there :(
in MACAU
we took the ferry back to Macau and this is a far more laid back place as compared to HK. Very tourist friendly too. We din really buy a lot here but mostly ate and strolled around and chilled out. We even spent some time in the hotel watching shows on the cable :)
so all in all, our this little holiday was v.fun. Pictures are in facebook.

workwise, there's some stuff coming up.. so not sure how that will go. Projects just seem to keep coming in but without any priorities its kinda hard to get things done. Hmmm... we'll c... we'll c...

boardgames wise, i really cant wait for my copy of SMALL WORLD to arrive :P the graphics really excite me and i hope its fun to play as well! Oh we are hoping to be able to start maybe a small boardgame club in the office too! then that will make it more fun to go to work everyday. :) hahhaa....

what else to update.... hmmm....
Comet's ok... not getting any bigger... last weekend we brought him to the beach and there was another 5 year old female huskie called Shadow that had similar markings as he. They played along quite well i feel and its nice to see Comet take to the sea easily. Though he did drink quite a bit of sea water, i hope the next time we bring him, he won't have a habit of doing that. Hope that we can bring him out more often! :D

Yup.. that's about it really.... Wifey's starting intern @ RJ next week... Oh and a good fren of mine, just got his 1st child! A beautiful baby girl :) Grats Andy!

woot woot

we are back from HK n Macau n our little one was sooooo happy to see us in the car that the tail must have wagged almost @ the speed of sound! :P n we smothered him with hugs n pats when we got back home (which was cleaned again hehhehe).
i will let the wifey detail our trip to HK n Macau while i recover from my flu (not swine flu no worries :P)

boardgame party!

so yesterday we had our board game party @ my place. We had wendy + david + dylan + yuming :) Then special appearances by Eugene + in-laws + grandma as well.
We played 1 wine card game + Acquire and also Pirates Cove. All quite fun n well liked by us all.
So i still have maybe 3 more games to play with my salsa frens which we all havent played with, with large amounts of peeps :). I will organise another one again and perhapes we can spend more time to play the serious ones (i.e. citadels etc)
hehehehee

We also had loads of Wii time, esp mario cart which had a lot of us dropping into bottomless pits.

quite fun day for all...

oh n comet had Wee time as well. He wee-ed everywhere...

little brat :p

Updates R' Us

so.....
next sat we will b flying over to HK + Macau. Hope to meet my ex-hk colleagues and Steve and Hanjin! hopefully able to buy a couple of clothings + other knickkacks for the house too! *GRIN*

workwise, pretty much more stuff to learn and new things to do.

Mac wise, yesterday i discovered the power of Geektool. Damm cool and allows u to script stuff directly to your desktop without using widgets. :p

boardgame wise, pretty much played all the new boardgames now except for Talisman and the Bohnanza addon. Has the itch been scratched? well... mostly..... :P

Wifey's got a few updates herself too and those are major exciting news.

oh... no.. not a baby... that one is still far away in our timeline....

HEE HEE HEE

Blow me...

http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking%2BNews/Singapore/Story/STIStory_367874.html

haha not in the wrong way.
so 83km/h winds on wed! wow.. which explains all the banging of windows / doors and the howling of the winds even from our aircon room.
Doesn't help that i was reading a book called "World War Z" about zombies and stuff. Btw, the book is a damm good read. I got it on friday and was trying my best to savor the book (never have i read a book that slowly) and managed to finish it inbetween train rides etc yesterday.

its a v.good read. And quite good materials for a movie (or game).
here's hoping they will do it and not let it degenerate into those "B" grade horror movies.

i wish the author can develop several of the open threads into full fledged novels. I will gladly go read em all! :)

i, Robot

well wifey's pretty busy studying n all so i'll just do a quick update on wat's been happening :P

a) we bought Roomba. well the house's kinda furry almost everyday so we thought this little helper will be able to at least help keep the floors from feeling grimy. Which it does ;) though sometimes it will get caught up in the wires n carpets and take a bit of time to get the job done, still we can pretty much leave it alone and let it runs it course. Comet's mostly curious but avoiding it for now which is cool :P

b) we bought a squeaky toy for comet! this toy makes a noise whenever you squeeze it and Comet so far's been having a ball with it. Though we probably have to keep it late @ nite or when we are sleeping. Definitely a no-no to have it with him in the crate else we won't be able to sleep! But its fun to hear the "squeak squeak" occasionally during the day

c) i cooked yesterday! but again i think it was only average. beef was too hard, did not cook the carrots long enough. ~sigh~... must improve. so far the best i ever cooked in the house was.......... the shoyu instant noodles from Myojo. Those are the BEST. Recommended :P

d) pictures! we have quite a few pics now stored in wife's cam + iphone so will try to upload those whenever wifey has the chance...

and.... that's about it.... hopefully the next post i will be happy to report that i already bought my 10 boardgames online + a slew of other stuff... heheehehe

My dad, the artist

recently my dad had another series of paintings which i feel is very very colorful and very suitable for our home i think :) here are the 2 pieces we thought are excellent.. the top one is my preference and the lower one is wifey's :)

you can see more of his works of art here

MRRrgggghhhhhhhhh

Last night on Earth... a board game based on the Zombie theme. Was quite fun once we got the hang of things but by then the time is up and we have to go back to office. I am intrigued :p Lotsa nice goodies to look @ (pictures are great) and if there are 6 players, its 4 survivors against 2 zombie players.

in other news...
www.tanhanjin.com
:) a school fren of mine has released his jazz album! so cool. A bunch of us managed to meet up over the weekend and we chatted from 11+ to abt 2+ am. Luckily location was nearby so wasnt too bad for me. Lotsa fun. Will be more fun again when we go to HK and meet up with hanjin and Steve! hehehhe..

Oh n the wifey has a new mac toy to play with! But i'll let her blog about it :D

and that is currently how Comet's nether regions look like :D

my Boardgame wishlist....

here's my current wish list:
1) Arkham horror
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/15987
this board game is a cooperative one (even single player can play) and its all to do with banding together and trying to defeat several incidents in the play area before the BIG BOSS appears. Failing that, we will have to defeat the BIG BOSS himself. WIth lots of expansions, this should have lots of replayability...

2) Settlers of Catan
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/13
This is not a new game, but has been one of the better games around. Maybe its about time i got it :) Basically you are to compete against the other players to be the first to score 10 points via building of roads + villages + towns and by means of collecting resources based on where you placed your villages / towns. Quite fun but will require the expansion for more pple to play.

3) Power Grid
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2651
i've never played this game before but have seen it around... our next bg cafe visit i will definitely try to get my colleagues to play this :p

4) Last Night on Earth
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/29368
recently with my purchase of Left 4 Dead, i'm intrigued by zombie games. There's another called ZOMBIES
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/31464
which has tons of expansion.... maybe its time we tried one of these horror genres...

5) Ticket to Ride
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/9209
This game is also quite popular and has a website from the producer which you can play online as well. Its quite a good game though the setup can be slightly tedious but nevertheless, an easy to learn game.

6) Galaxy Trucker
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/31481
my cousin mentioned this game to me and basically its about building a capable spaceship and trying to haul as much goods as u can to win. Quite interesting but not a high priority :)

7) Talisman 4th Edition
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/27627 ah.... this game brings back fond memories. Its like WoW in boardgame format :) but quite expensive though... still with the right mindset players, will be fun!

8) Roborally
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/18
ooo ... 2-8 players! and its about robots! enugh said :p

9) Shadows over Camelot
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/15062
we played this before. the game is that we are all knights of the round table and we are to go out and protect Camelot. But among one of us is a traitor who needs to prevent us from winning... grrr.....

10) Acquire
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/5
i played this with wifey + bro-in-law + su en and it was quite fun! the pieces looks nice and the game concept is refreshing

11) Ingenious
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/5
i heard this game is good.. but i never tried before... so... :)

12) Pirate's Cove
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2987
played it. loved it. cant wait to have it

thanks for playing!

so yesterday i had a whale of a time playing lotsa board games from 2+pm onwards till abt 10 :p
we played
:guillotine
:rocketville
:pickpicknic
:bohnanza
:blokus

Yay! hope you guys enjoyed playing them as much as i did!
ehhehee... its good to find a grp of frens that likes to play boardgames as much as me..

now to see what else to buy :p

Sunday, March 1, 2009

the votes are in!

yes Rocketville! This game i bought for some time already but never had the chance to try it out. Today with a spontaneous visit from Celest + Dylan, we had a nice time playing Blokus and Rocketville (in between there was swimming + doggie training + doggie bathing)
The game's a bit of a mixture between pickpicknick and For Sale and is quite a fun game to play.
Lets see if we can organise these wkend board game sessions more often!

Fun fun Fun!

what do you want to play?

oooo Pirate's Cove...
went to pitstop today with 3 other colleagues and we played Pirate's Cove. Always been wanting to try this and finally have the chance!
its a pretty fun game to play with you trying to be the YARRRRRest pirate (i.e. most notorious) one of them all to win the game in 12 turns :) fun fun!

oh and i bought my board games! Got Bohnanza, Dominion and Blokus :)

now this is dominion. Havent really tried it yet but ist primarily a card game where u build up yr deck which utlimately will give you victory points to triumph over the other players. Hope to be able to play it soon! :p

ah blokus.... heheh.. another fun game to play and its especially good for kids as it helps them to think out of the box. besides, its super duper colorful too! :D

Thursday, February 26, 2009

everyone needs someone ...

that supports u,
that thinks for u,
that thinks with u,
that knows what u think,
that u know can help u
be it big or small problems,
that u know will love u no matter what
and that you can love, no matter what....

i'm glad i found my wife :P

the ones that started it all....

these are the ones that started the whole board game craze for me....

1) Fortress america
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/99
i remember we were shopping for my birthday gift and we were around the orchard area. I remember we had to go do the basement to this shop that was so crowded with then D&D stuff. I was instantly amazed and wanted to look and see everything. Then we asked the owner for a recommendation and he recommended this game to us. Little did we know how daunting it is for just 2 players to play this game given my limited understanding of how certain things work. I think this game din hold any interest for my brother as it essentially pitted us against each other and usually we dissolve into just playing the little plastic tanks and planes in our imaginary battles :P
isnt it interesting how such a game like this in today's context might be appropriate? not sure where the game went already...

2) panzer leader
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2639
This was bought i think due to my attraction to WWII. This one is rather tough to play (as a teenager) due to the authentic army icons that represent troops and the various calculations involved. That and of course the lack of plastic tanks for me to play with :(. It seems to have been passed on to my cousin who still has it and plays it. He told me it contributed to his interest in board gaming :)... Glad i helped!

3) talisman
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/27627
This was introduced to me by my primary school friend Keith (american as i recall). This was very fun for us as it was my first D&D type game. I am thinking of buying the new version (just to remember how it was back then).. hopefully i can peak the interest of some of my frens to play this as well!

4) dragonlance
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/795
Another game introduced by Keith and involves us flying dragons and killing each other. I think i wasnt too good at this but well, there were plastic dragons (see the trend here?) and that was fun :)

5) car wars
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2795
Can't remember how i got this game but the content it has provided me with several hours of fun just by reading and designing cars and imagining. There was a PC version of this game if i recall correctly. Ultimately though, those cardboard 2D pictures of cars and oil slicks etc provided me with hours of fun! not sure where this went....

6) lost valley of the dinosaurs
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3149
ah this game brings back so many wonderful memories. This game we played also with my cousins and involves us as teams of adventurers venturing into a valley to a temple to retrieve gold pieces. Along the way there are quick sands, serpents in swamps, swooping Pterodactyl, roaming T-Rexes and of course, the flowing lava. All in all, it provided for many a good fun (even without the game we would play with the t-rexes). not sure what became of this though.. but i remembered this was a XMAS or Bday present. Good times... good times....

7) Pay day
http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1797
ah.......another very fun game. I think this one my parents played with us before. Quite fun involving living through the calendar and trying to earn as much money as you can at the end of the month. Think there's property involved too.... heheh its been so long ago....

there is 1 more rather unique one which my cousins had which involves buying shipping companies, having ships and transporting goods and selling them. Can't really remember the name so no reference so far.... but it was rather fun too as i recall (and also there are plastic ships if it wasnt :p)

of course we have the usual monopoly and cluedo and chess and uno etc. :) but those above are a bit more unique so i decided to highlight them.

Sunday, February 15, 2009

are you game?

recent gatherings with my cousins have triggered the board game bug in me again and i am so looking forward to an upcoming gathering where they can all gather @ my place and us "kids" play our board games whereas the adults do what they usually do :p
here are some of the games i've played these 2 months:

1) PANDEMICthis is a co-op game. Similar to Shadows over Camelot. Basically you and your fellow players are medical professionals out to rid the world of diseases. So as each turn progresses, the epidemics will spread around the world and may run rampant, depending on how well you and your fellow players deal with each situation and plan ahead. For me, this was ok, we only played it once so cant really judge too much but so far its avg for me. Wifey liked it better :)

2) Guillotine
i've always wanted to try this game but never had a chance to. My cousin had it to we tried it and it was quite fun! i then played it again with my colleagues and they had fun too. Its simple really and involves obtaining heads with the most points and trying to prevent other players from obtaining these high-pointed heads as well. Though it might seem morbid to some, but its a good game with some historical background as well (as all this did happen....) I loved it and i cant wait to introduce wifey to this!

3) UptownPlayed this with my colleagues the 2nd time we went to the board game cafe. its not as exciting and reminds me of blokus n GO. So its mostly just average to me. Maybe we just need to play it a bit more faster for a bit more excitment. But with not much depth and boring graphics, this is only so-so for me.

4) Bohnanza
this is a easy to learn and rather fun game that involves bits of planning + bargaining and trading which allows for a rather loud, noisy and fun game to play. Had quite a lot of fun especially with my younger cousins who picked up the game rather quickly and we had a whale of a time trying to bargain with the younger kids :) Very much recommended and I should be purchasing this soon! :P

When you wake all your troubles be gone

The weekend was filled with loads of laughter, hugs, and tears.

If I had described the atmosphere in that room to you, you'd think we were having a party amongst friends who haven't met in the longest time.

That room was one in a NUH ward, and the star was my aunty LF.

As she lay there, not being able to speak but still being able to respond, she continued to show us what a fighter she was.

And since she couldn't go home, we brought home to her - in the form of pillows, music, books and people. Even my aunt from US flew down to be with her.

In her best years, she was active, and adventurous. She'd try any food you threw at her, and climb every mountain she could.

She was the quirkiest aunt I've ever had, saying things you'd never expect to hear someone of her generation and upbringing would say.

She loved her nieces and nephews like she did her two sons - now married, one with child on the way.

I remember how she'd used to take us out for meals at Tony Roma's because she loved to chew on them ribs.

She was never one to be bitter, even though she had to grow up really fast to support her family. According to my mom, she was like a second mother to my aunties and uncles.

She was the epitome of a model citizen and a hard worker. She didn't have a bad bone in her body.

But what many people didn't know, was how hard she fought the cancer that came back time and again to try and take her.

Through all the fighting, she never let on the amount of pain she felt because she didn't want people to worry. Not about her. Because she felt we all had bigger things to worry about.

Today, it seemed like the cancer won out. Over the last week, it slowly took the rest of her body - organ by organ - until this morning, when it took her lungs, and her heart.

But even as she gasped her last breath, she wasn't one to have people worry about her. She went quietly, and peacefully.

The truth is that her body really couldn't have contained her any longer. She was just waiting to bust out of the vessel that's been tying her down.

She is bigger than her body.

And we celebrate her busting out of the thing that we all saw as an obstacle to her self.

She can now defy gravity, and nothing's going to bring her back down.

We love you aunty LF. Go be where you need to be, and we'll see you later.

We promise we'll keep laughing in your honor. =)

when the time comes.....

how does it all end?
how do u want it to end?
how do u want all those around you to treat the whole thing?
typically, in many tradditional families, its met with lots of sadness and this continues on to a drone like mode to perform a list of activities dictated by our ancestors.
This week, i was pleasently surprised at how wife's relatives are treating the whole thing when one of their own is taken away.
There is the usual sorrow and tears, but there is an unusual amount of sharing, caring, happiness, joy and even laughter.
Its because they think back on the happier times which they had shared with wife's aunt, how she used to be and how vibrant and caring she was before cancer's repeated attacks on her body.
Her aunt passed on Monday(09/02/2009) morning and the usual activities that are to be done are now being done. However there will be unusual tweaks to the norm that the family will be planning. For example, playing Aunt LF's favourite music and even another party to celebrate her life with all her favourite foods.
Such is their way of dealing with a passing of someone dear. Such is their celebration of life, celeration of her life and how our lives are enriched by hers.
Such is how i hope to be remembered as well when the time comes....

you dog has what now?

so in our estate there is this very smart n pretty dog that our Comet likes to play with. This dog's pretty smart n obedient. Whenever the owner calls, he will come running.. he even manages to stay still while the owner goes to 7-11 to buy. So cool!
Now recently we saw the owner had shaved off all the hair off the dog. Now he looks like a minature greyhound. I finally got to meet up with them last night for Comet's evening walk and asked what happened.
Apparently when they were not around (they had gone for a long holiday leaving the house vacated), the house has (or had!) a lot of ticks. And they had to shave the poor boy so as to remove all the ticks!
As he was saying this, i gasped (mentally) in horror as i see Comet all over the dog (body contact body contact!) and waved them goodbye as i brought Comet up.

i feel like a parent who's kid has just been exposed to someone else's sick kid...

AHHAhaa....

i m no longer a virgin!

http://kb.lx2gt.lu/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=21641

my first kill... :p not solo, in a grp, but still a kill nevertheless hhahah

we were gate camping when he appeared in the gate and got bubbled. my Crow stopped its lazy orbit around the gate and quickly moved in to pepper the red with faction missiles. After he popped, i attempted to lock the pod but couldn't. (can't remember why) but nevertheless he got podded too. It all happened in a flash so i can but catch only a few glimpse of what happened. More often than not though, you only notice the flashing red in your overview, the name of the ship, the owner in the local channel and your flashing modules. oh also the range to the target so you knwo when to activate your modules.
Rarely do you get a chance to look @ your pew pew and the enemy ship... but great fun nevertheless :D

but before my romp around EVE-O is done i did a very facepalm thing (if you don't know what that means, it means basically something u do that is so D-UH that u slap the palm of yr hand to your forehead :X)
we were tracking this red between a few systems and bubbling up the gates whilst trying to flush him out. By that time it was rather late and i doubt Comet could hold in his pee+poop any longer. So i decided to head to the nearest station and dock up. Little did i know when i went to that station, i noticed him on scan. (i had warped to 100km from the station as i tot he might do that and lo and behold, he was @ the station).
Now a few things happened @ once...
a) i tracked him, tried to move twds him whilst activating my MWD
b) i typed into the fleet chat "he's @ station!"
c) some of the fleet members chimed "what? he's docked up?"
d) at this time i was still flying towards him when he disappeared from my overview
e) to which i then typed "he's docked up". Because...well... that's what i thought had happened...
f) my mistake caused a few of the fleet members to warp to the station
g) this allowed the red (who is in a shuttle btw) a little window from which to escape and fly home safely.

*FACEPALM*
~sigh~... lessons learnt:
1) don't panic when seeing the enemy, calm down, run through the SOP (standard operating procedures), i.e. target, MWD, zoom to view ship, inform fleet.
2) talk more into comms for faster conveying of information
3) be sure of the whereabouts of the red before reporting

you would think...

that the editors would have chosen a less face that does not seem to suggest "HA HA... i got away with millions!"

All about a dog

so we watched Quill yesterday and it was a good show to watch. Even Comet at certain points of the movie was starring @ the tv as if the labbie on it was a real dog to him. The show sure tugged at our heartstrings especially since we are dog owners ourselves. Wifey mentioned that the show seems to have a sad note throughout the entire duration of the show and made us remember the high points with Comet. We sure hope that he learns some obedience from Quill. Overall the movie left us with feel-good-feelings for Comet :p

then the next day he will do silly stuff like lunge while we are walking him, try to bite us or generally being a twit.. and all the feel-good-feelings have evaporated

twit...

our silly lovable twit :p

so what's been happening?

well quite a bit. we r busy hosting people at our place (very fun and helps us to have motivation to keep the place clean. otherwise its like "Attack of the Furballs" here...) and generally enjoying our lives together, the pup, tv shows, games and movies.

Place wise we pretty much settled into a comfortable routine of cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping etc. We shall soon try to put in swimming and maybe gym into the mix :) but between all the tv shows, movies, blu-rays, games and dog, not sure if we have much time left! I so need more than 24 hrs a day :p

Dog wise, we got the e-colllar which administers a little jolt (setting is from 0 to 127 and currently he's hovering from 15 to 40) to our pup to "get his attention" and hopefully make him more aware of what we require from him. Walking him now is much more controllable though i hope he doesn't go berserk from us trying to make him pay attention. We r thinking of neutering him come Feb/March... not sure yet... anyone's got a female huskie that wants to make with Comet? HEEE HEEE HEEE
Oh we had an interesting conversation with a fren on the type of dog and desposition/nature of dog he is intending to get together with his fiancee. Hope they manage to come to a mutually acceptable conclusion!

Movies and TV shows. Now we still have some blu-rays we havent even opened from the wrapping yet. Plus our Gramophone subscription is still active for maybe a month or so and of course wifey is now hooked on "Dancing with the Stars". so plenty there to entertain us for months to come! What blu-ray to get next? hmmmm i m not sure.... let me visit Mr Amazon....

Guitar Hero we pretty much covered all the gigs there is to play, mostly at Medium setting.. not sure if we are nimble enough to try hard! heheh my brain cant function with 5 guitar buttons to mash... but the silliest thing is my PS3 network doesn't have a GH shop where i can buy new songs from! :( so sad.....
Eve Online i am still pretty much active though i lost another Drake (named LSG III) whilst trying to get to my new 0.0 HQ. Luckily another corpmate gave me his cos he had a spare around so i m pretty much good again. Trying to work up enough standing for L4 missions meanwhile and maybe trying PVP in the future! Good luck to me!
Fallout3 still pretty slow moving.... need to have a better plan to tackle this... or i can just slowly play the game :) but i'm so itchy to wear power armor and i read i have to go further into the main storyline to be able to do so! :(

Workwise, its the start of 2009 and things still seem to be pending this and that (i.e. pretty much the same) since i went on my long leave in end dec 2008.

Hope things will pick up soon! :)

have fun y'all!
