R u feeling it yet?

Financial Crunch
well u gotta be living in some hold or have all yr cash stuffed under yr bed or something to not feel the crunch yet. Work wise its been hectic what with the new structural changes, new initiatives and new directions. So far impact wise is still managable and nothing massive / major yet. From some fortune teller email i got, 2009 should be a very good year for me in all areas. lets hope so! *Cross fingers*

Xmas spirit
heh this one is a bit lacking. mainly cos of the bonus cut and potentially pay increment cut. Wifey n me did intend to get a tree but well we are not sure if it will survive Tornado Comet :p Still with my upcoming leave next wk till start Jan (oh btw i am going to MR --> Military Reserve --> no more IPPT --> no more ICT too! yippie!!!), the wifey n me should be able to enjoy our time, with comet, with Guitar Hero and what not. Hehheeh

Comet's Puberty
Seems he's either hitting puberty or something because these few days he's behaving kinda wierd. For starters, his eating habits have slowed down a lot. While this is a very much welcomed change, he has even gone to the point where he will stop eating. Which to me is rather wierd. I attribute it to his teething (i.e. sore gums) but i cant be sure as i am not a vet. he has dropped teeth (we collected 3.. not sure why the wifey wants to keep though hehehe) so we know he's teething. Also we found he has 2 teeth that are ingrown together. not sure if that will be a problem for him when he grows up. he has fishy breath too! eeps.. when he gets excited and pants.. OoOfff.. the smell.... Trainer says its ok for dogs to have some breath hahaah...
This weekend we will be getting the E-collar for him. Its a collar that presents a little electric jolt to the dog to make him pay attention to u. I can't wait to get my hands on this handy gizmo and see if his behavior improves :p

Gaming
nowdays i lock in about 2-3 hours a night of gaming.
Fallout3 is rather slow as it tends to get "lonely" not having to interact with anyone. But that's to be expected as, well the earth has turned into a waste land and intelligent conversation are few and far between.
Eve Online though i managed to fly an interceptor (named Comet) and a stealth bomber (named Alfro Samurai). Missions can be quite long though so only when i am sure i have long stretches of time then i will embark on them. I am trying to work my way towards our new base of operations and see if i can engage in Corp-sanctioned missions there with my inty (or maybe a cruiser or 2). 12 days training for heavy Missiles lvl 5 is sure a bore :(

Entertainment
Last few wks we were rushing dvds of "Criminal Minds" which is a very solid show and also Hellboy I and II (not as impressive but entertaining still). We borrowed Heroes Season 2 Blu-ray and also 30 Rock season 1 so that should tied us over in terms of entertainment wise. What else to watch? Hmm i hope to be able to get some more good blu-rays. Can't get enough for 47" HD juiciness :p

End of 2008
For me, this year has been a rather exciting one. Full of ups and downs. i sure hope we will end the year on a super positive note but that really depends on factors beyond my control. Those that are within my control however are fine and dandy.

Can't wait to see what 2009 brings!

*sings*
me and you and a dog named Comet....
dancing our way to 2009!

my breath fogged up the glass.

so i drew a new face and i laughed.

and that's just jason mraz's easy-to-understand way of saying what randy pausch preached before he passed on...

"we cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand."

people often question why things happen, more so when the bad comes a'knockin' than when the good calls.

i wonder why. because if people question the bad because they want to avoid it, then shouldn't they question the good as well to keep it at hand?

in any case, this post isn't about questions. it's about not questioning.

i've realized (post-snuffy hubby) that when i stop questioning what happens to me and just act upon the acceptance of the facts, i feel a lot happier.

it's like when you analyze the facts of a case, you take them as they are, and recommend solutions based on those facts.

this does not mean that i've stopped questioning. in fact, i'm doing that a lot more critically these days.

but sometimes, when it comes to something i can't make sense of through reasoning, i just accept it and deal with it. because if i keep questioning, then i'd be wasting too many resources on that. and i may be left with just a smidgeon of that to deal with the issue in question.

so when it comes down to that, i'd prefer to look forward, and not spend too much time on the past.

i learnt this after watching randy pausch's last lecture, and i will practise this for as long as i live.

thank goodness for a partner who has embraced this as much as i do.

Beat it!

ladies and gentlemen, we are now the proud owners of GUITAR HERO - WORLD TOUR (PS3 version)!
OMG is so fun hahah with wifey on the drums n me on the guitar doing all the rock star stuff. The rock music is really quite engaging, visuals quite spectacular and after about 2+ hours of it after unwrapping we are hooked for more!
Plus now our frens who visit us can get to play too!
Wonder if anyone will get us 1 more guitar (for bass) then we can have 4 players....
*GRIN*
btw our band is called "Little Comets" and we have the teddy bear with butt on fire as the logo.
AHHHAAHAHAHA

omg....

so the big news nowadays is what has happened in Mumbai. Its tragic certainly but some comments in the Newpaper was really......silly.

"These terrorists have no regard for life"
..... D-UH! I mean u gotta be kidding me with such a comment....

"These terrorists don't respect Singapore"
.........they basically don't need to respect anyone! I mean who are we that we can demand such respect when even the U-S-of-A was a target of terrorists as well?

these were commented by an 18yr old student and i sure hope its lack of perception / maturity that made this student sprouted such OMG-comments....

ow.

the little tyke bit me on my left third finger.

it was so deep the GP sent me straight to A&E. and they gave me a tetanus jab and squished all the bad blood out of the wound.

all through the squishing, i was in so much pain that i kept asking the nurse questions to distract myself. i guess that, and not screaming, works best for me.

a journalist through and through, no? =P

i was so freaked out by the wound when i changed my dressing yesterday that i bawled my eyes out to the hubby. the sting felt so bad, from a seemingly clear cut. =(

true colors.

i miss the way i use to write.

with such overwhelming emotion, borne by anger.

i was always faced with questions about mortality. not of my own, but of others, which made me think of mine.

in that sense, i was in purgatory. i did not know what else to think about, and how else to feel...

...but sad, angry, and grey.

i was unaffected by surrounding happiness, excitement, bliss, but always empathetic towards melancholy, hurt, pessimism.

my husband dragged me out - kicking and screaming - from the abyss that was my life.

before him, i had never known of anything beyond those shades of grey.

so my life with eric was, literally, a new journey. for us, and especially, for me.

i had to re-learn emotions that were hidden far back in some chamber of my brain.

i stopped writing. because i knew it was never going to be the same.

though sometimes, when i'm left to my own defenses for days at a time, i'd remember how grey looked like. and start to write.

i'm happy seeing the occasional grey, and feeling angry.

i'm happy feeling melancholic.

of course, i'm glad eric's around at times to make me see that sunshine yellow instead.

and, for the record, he has never been the cause of any shade of grey i see.

i feel, oddly, at peace now.

guess what color i am today.

band of brothers...

got my good friends over to our place for a house warming last saturday (wow how time flies, its almost a wk ago already!). The topic of the day however was about the credit crisis. Just that day i mentioned that seems my co's reports are good and all, and, well come monday it seems as if i had to eat my own words.
HAHAHAAHAH
lets see just how affected i will be when bonus comes around...

We engaged Alfred to help our Comet behave. Alfred had quite a few comments about Comet, including:
a) that he's a bit underfed (opps!)
b) that he has an unhealthy obsession with food (evidence of the bites me and wifey got)
c) that he has a lot of character for a pup of 3 months
d) that he looks so cute

So given the past 2 lessons that we had, i think we see a slight improvement in Comet. If nothing else, we learnt more about our pup and how to deal with him better than before so its all good. We are also making friends with people with dogs around the estate. Like what the wifey said, having a dog makes communication and talking to strangers that much more easier. Hopefully Comet's training and behavior will somewhat balance out soon! *cross fingers*

We brought him to swim @ sentosa last sunday and boy did he have fun. Running everywhere and i'm glad to say he's not really afraid of water. Though there are times he will follow me with abandon into the ocean but after 1 or 2 meters out he will suddenly seem to realise that this was a bad idea and swim back to shore. Note to self: next trip there we should bring our assortment of bath gear for him so we can just bathe him straight there :p

on the house front, everything's fine, though i am not cooking much *EEHEHEHEH*. wifey's doing a lot of cooking for which i am really grateful. Laundry seems to be piling up very fast (i may have to consider wearing my underwear for 3 days straight!) so hopefully we won't be charged a hand and a leg when the bill comes! Floors get dusty easily (think if we open the window this happens faster!) but we got our mobile broom (i.e. Comet). Then again he may contribute more than he cleans... hahahaha

all in all, managing Comet takes up about 3+ hours of a day. I wake up at 630am, bring him down to pee/poop. Bring him up, feed him. Down again to walk/run him. Up again to drink. Then i go change and go to work at about 810am.
After i get back, do the same drill again. Usually from 7ish to 9ish.
By then, wifey will settle down to do homework while i go online gaming (my spaceman needs more ISKs!!!) so pretty busy huh? Luckily the in-laws are ok with Comet so sometimes we can park the little runt and go out ourselves (as we are going to do this weekend)..

btw i am thinking of changing my phone. The "Sucky-Everything" (sony ericsson) G900 is the pits. Armpit, shitpit whatever pit you can think of. I just have to change it. Though not too sure what to change it to though. Faith suggests the Nokia E71 as its so cool. Reviews online say so too. Then again some reviews say the G900 is a very very good phone (pffffft). But i keep thinking that if i go for the E71, i might as well get the iphone (of which i will be much more excited over)....but iphone is way way too ex :(.. otherwise i can go for the w595)... decisions decisions..

any comments anyone?

p.s. the Juicer is back on the list. instead we got a way cool looking cake cutter.... :p Thanks Lin Kern!

tutti frutti

oh btw... juicer / blender has been taken off the house wish list :)
Thanks Kelvin!

Rocket man burning out his fuse up here alone...

so i've been moving along in Eve online. Now previously i was in a corp that was pretty much laid back as the tax (corps tax you on your mission bounty in %), thus i had no support and pretty much left alone to do what i wanted to do. Needless to say i did not progress as far nor as fast. Then i met an ex-colleague in the game and we were talking and he mentioned he joined a corp that seems pretty exciting. After a few conversations and I was in the same corp. This corp is so different and quite active and pretty much I had a direction and much needed help. More help came when one of the members invited a few of us to join him in level 4 missions. From 1 such mission alone (from bounty and mission rewards) will be able to fetch me about 2+mil isks (in game credit). Compared to if i run my own level 2 missions, that would probably take me about 6+ runs before i make that much isk.
Now initially I would have bough a Ferox battleship as it was within my affordability and skillset range. My fren mentioned why don't i aim for a Drake (which was 30+mil isk). i checked my skillsets and i wasn't really far from reaching that aim so i decided to go for it. Now earning the isks was tough as i was about 10+mil away. Yesterday i was back home (took half day leave to bring Comet to get last vacinination and microchipping) and after a few rounds of 2 player split screen Rainbow 6 II on the Ps3 , i logged in to play around a bit. And i noticed in the local chat a player who said "First person that moos in local channel gets 10mil isk". Wow....to which i did. I went "Mooooooooooooooo" and he commented "Winner!" and my wallet swelled by 10mil!
YOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....
Afterwards in the night when I had time to play, i researched and found the cheapest Drake i could find (for 30.9mil) and proceeded to make the largest purchase in Eve of my life. After buying it, i quickly jumped into the driver seat and vroomed vroomed it back to my base of operations and see what i could fit it out with. Unfortunately with only 1mil isk left, i cant do much. here's hoping my corp mates can provide some charitable parts to me! :p

my new Drake battleship.. ain't she a beaut?

looks like those kitchen grater thingies...:p

out for a spin...

Bring us to warp Mr Sulu!

Oh btw, i named my ship "Little Superhero Gal" after the wifey :p Here's hoping to many more missions in my brand new ship!

*giggles like a little girl*

shower me with your love....

last weekend we had to give Comet his bath. Now he quite good when he gets his bath and only at the end does he do the usual doggie-dry-myself routine. Doesn't he look a bit pathetic when he's all wet? But its part and parcel of keeping him from having the wet-dog smell :P
this looks just like a family portrait... heheh

one of my babies..

the other baby...

impish ones :P

well we had jac and oille over. Wow oille was a handful and i think Comet must be wondering what to make of this huge thing-a-ma-jig that's running all over the place trying to sniff and paw me. I think he's playing with me.. but... hmmm....
Comet was kinda less scardy kat this time.. but still he retreats rather fast when he gets startled. this house sure aint big enough for the 2 of them....
This weekend will be another busy one. Serene's frens will be coming over and then on sat her colleagues will be over! first major housewarming for us as we see if we can cater to so many guests :P hope they like the place and sure hope Comet behaves!

*cross fingers*

"Wave" your hands in the air! "Wave" them like you just don't care!

we received good news this morning that an item, the Microwave, from our home wish list has been taken care of.

YAY!

Thank you!

hoping and wishing..

psst.... check out our home wish list on the left column...

*GRIN*

you are the one...

omg...the matrix blu-ray collection only available in japan comes with a toy model!

OMG OMG OMG....

i want wannnnnnnnnnnnn............. anyone going to japan in mid december??!!!?

http://gizmodo.com/5056001/japanese-matrix-trilogy-blu+ray-collection-arrives-in-the-nebuchadnezzar

around the track they drove at a deadly pace....

well i don't really watch F1 but last night's race was quite exciting. Did not realise there were so many twists and turns and well there you have it... ING-Renault's first win and in little Singapore nevertheless. Now if only Alonso will share his purse winnings with us *GRIN*
There were a few interesting points of the F1 show:
1) During the singing of the national anthem.. there was a shot of the lady singing our anthem.. and a singtel grid girl. Now that girl seems to not be sure of what to do with the Singapore flag NOR does she realise she should be singing the anthem. Instead, she just stood there trying to pose pretty with the flag and trying to unravel the flag. Tsk Tsk...
2) Being a singtel grid girl, i would have thought they would be more mindful of the cameras that are everywhere. There was another shot of the grid girls walking to somewhere along a corridor and 2 out of the 3 of them had a deadpan look on their face. The 3rd though knew when the camera was there and smiled for us to see. Tsk Tsk...
3) Dang our roads are bumpy and dirty. So much debris everywhere. I read in today's MY PAPER that there was even artificial fertilizer somewhere on the track!
4) but the comment in MY PAPER is quite apt in saying that it was like a necklace on a beautiful lady. Because watching the spectacle last night, the streets glowing bright white against the somewhat darker city landscape, really does remind one of a diamond necklace.

So all in all, a rather exciting race. Wonder if the next year will be just as exciting... :)

house wise, our final piece of furniture, a sofa-bed from barangbarang has arrived and, like the rest of our other furnitures, fit into the study room super nicely. Wifey has been doing a lot of cooking lately and dang the food is good *GRIN*. I'm so lucky!
We went swimming on sun morning and took a lot of pics with wifey's camera in the water. I sure wish we can bring comet for a swim.. see how he behaves to water...

this month i will start running the dog maybe 3 times a week when i bring him for a walk in preparation also for my RT then IPPT test next month. I better pass this time.. :<

Comet wise, well he's always nippy around me. I suspect though its to attract my attention as it seems i only give him attention when he's trying to nip at me. We realise he's been biting at things and i noticed one of our dinning room chair legs have gnaw marks. Though we are still trying to figure out how come there's a rather large piece of splinter near our kitchen toilet. We have no idea where its from! hmmmmm....

comet the barbarian.

the pup bit snuffy hubby last night as he tried to take his bowl away post-dinner.

it was a shock to us all because he's never growled so fiercely or nipped at us that way before. that had eric miffed the whole night. this would mark the first time he's ever been bitten by a dog.

watching comet move and act the past couple of days have been really enlightening.

he's pretty much toilet-trained, though he would do the occasional "pee-in-front-of-you" if you scold him too much. i've found that the best way to get past that is to distract him immediately after the scolding.

he's good at sitting, though he still tests our patience sometimes. but he knows that if he doesn't sit and wait, he will not get his meal, or water. yes, we're teaching him delayed gratification.

i've heard from trainers how you shouldn't teach a dog tricks until he's obedience-trained. so i'm now on to only my second treat-training "down". he's been doing quite well on that front though i think i oughta persevere a bit.

i've found that training comet is pretty much like how parents would teach kids. you need to teach them their boundaries because they will try ANYTHING until you tell them it's wrong.

whether it's kids or dogs, hitting them for punishment is not the way to go. they will associate the punishment with the act, but may not understand the reasoning behind it. instead, experts recommend positive reinforcement - praising and treats for good behavior.

the reason kids and dogs seem hyperactive is that they simply are. when they're young and their learning level of readiness isn't there yet, there really isn't much for them to do but act out and want to play. they'll be fine once you tire them out.

and one reason the pup pounces on people is that he wants eye contact. i've found that if i put myself on the same level as comet, he pounces on me less often. of course, there are experts who say that if the dog recognizes you as the alpha, he will know that the pouncing is unacceptable and will not do it to you. when you're the alpha, every command is non-negotiable. he will just have to do it.

i want everyone to know that choke chain usage is not intended to hurt the dog or scare it into submission. it really is like any other collar, though more effective in communicating to your dog. if you notice how people who know how to use choke chains do it, a quick tug is all the dog needs to know he shouldn't be doing some, or that he should slow down. the tug is accompanied by a command, so hopefully, the dog will learn to associate it with the tug, and react before the alpha pulls at the chain.

the puppy is hyperactive, but also gets tired very easily. comet lazes around when there's no one to play with him.

here's him in a rare act of tenderness. =P

all in, i think having a pup is good training for people who may want to have kids in the future.

and looking at the way eric wakes up at ungodly hours to let comet out for a wee, i'd say he'd make a good father.

as for me, the little tyke's really testing my patience. but the stress all fades away when i see him curling up on the floor next to me.

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

comet and me...

i don't usually have to school during the day on wednesdays, so i usually spent it in the hubby's room resting, doing some readings, or homework.

but since we've moved, we've let the puppy hang with us in the living room when we're home.

he's quite good, while occasionally trying his luck at nipping at the newspapers on the rack, and at the kitchen rug. most times, he just curls up somewhere to snooze.

this afternoon while having my lunch, he crawled under my dining chair to get some shut-eye.

i saw him curled up there until i dozed off on the couch some time later.

when i woke up and looked over, he was gone. and i panicked for a bit.

then i saw him sleeping by the couch.

sure brought a smile to my face. =)

be our guest....

ze kitchen...

our first meal @ our place! cooked by the wifey...

how our kitchen looks like

the living room.... 47" tv which acts as my PC monitor too!

view from the place...

yes yes ! we are now OFFICIALLY in the new place! Other than the technical glitch between the TV and the home theatre system (it doesn't accept audio input via HDMI...) the house shaped out nicely. All the furniture which we thought would have been too big fitted the house nicely with enough room left over which made us so happy. now left only the sofa bed for study room which comes this sat and once the doggie is more controllable, we are ready for guests!!

~bliss~...

more trading goodness...

holoreels, profit = 247835 isk, time = 2 mins
data sheets, profit = 94156 isk, time = 10 mins
some more holoreels, profit = 573506 isk, time = 16 mins

so its about 32696 isk/min
that's double of what i did this morning! :P

Saturday, September 13, 2008

i am a trader!

lets see....
holoreels, profit = 497199 isk, time spent = 16 mins
silicate glass, profit = 266789 isk, time spent = 15 mins
livestock, profit = 452510 isk, time spent = 11 mins
dairy products, profit = 50852 isk, time spent = 27 mins

total profit so far = 1,267,350 isk
time spent = 69 mins
that's about 18367 isk/min..

:p

lets get it to about 10mil per hour! :p

why does one play eve online?

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/09/09/the-great-war/

because of such huge engagements like this :p
best of all, my skills are-a-training while i am-a-working :)
so real life doesn't get affected TOO much hehehehe

1 more week to getting our electronic goodies and sofa and dinning table to our new place!
1 wk + 1 more day to the GREAT MOVE!
about 2 wks to our sofa-bed for study room to come!

so exciting!

Get your head in the game...

so all this excitement going on has it affected my game playing? Somewhat... but it doesn't matter as a puppy is in itself, a real life SIMS. Still though i get some time to play games (like when wifey is studying and doing her stuff or in school) so that's not too bad after all!
Warcraft i have definitely stopped playing. I have stopped before i flew over to USA for my holiday and have not played at all since. I just can't commit in the long hours just to go for instancing so i'm left with ZA/BGs which gets boring fast....
I think i shall not get warhammer online. I've been in the beta environment and its been fun but its similar to WoW and to get the best, you gotta be around to grind and get the XP and all that jazz again. (Though lawrence if you are gettin'.. that might be tempting :p )
Eve online i may continue playing. Largely because its a game you can take up and play and stop anytime you want. This is also because the skills are based on real time. Thus i can be working and the skills are still being trained. Just need to schedule them properly to maximise the time. Other than that, the only grinding you need would be to get isk ($$) to buy new and bigger ships etc....
Spore came out not too long ago and i was thinking of getting it for wifey and me to experiment and play together but Spore = Comet so that's that.
Now I am eagerly waiting for FALLOUT3 :) based on my past experiences with Fallout and Fallout2, I'm pretty sure its gonna be fun fun fun for Fallout3...
So anyone gonna be playing Eve Online (nick is Zesparrow in the game) or Warhammer online or Fallout3? what are your thoughts?

Just for laughs

this is a very good writeup on singapore-produced sitcoms and what's the matter with them...
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/entertainment/view/374421/1/.html

i agree with the insight that as much as people want to be different and want to try new humor, by and large we are still governed by the viewers, which affect the ratings, which in turn affect the bottom line. As such, more often than not, most producers/writers tend to go for the tried-and-tested type of humor.

which is why wifey and i both love american shows because they dare to try the market. They dare to try and fail and then move on with the next big thing, always trying, always daring and never afraid to fail.

i guess also us viewers as a whole in singapore need to evolved and thus demand for more intelligent and challenging humor before change can happen....

and that might not even be possible for the next 2 generations i reckon....

Walk like an Egyptian.....

you know, after our first week + weekend together, he's turning out to be a little bugger. Though its our lovable little bugger, a little bugger no less. *GRIN*
Last night we spent like 2 hours walking, talking and taking lessons from the breeder and we are amazed to see Comet's other brother being so obedient and bigger sized (its the suppliments...which we intend to get too). After last night, we were quite disappointed at how he behaved and so the breeder gave us a few more tips on how to train up our bugger. Basically it involves being able to lose Comet. As in, you walk and walk away. Dog mentality will take over him and make him follow as he doesn't want to lose you/lose sight of you. Other tips also involved running now instead of just walking (his strides are getting bigger and he can move faster) and also running together (usually one of us will walk with him and the other will hang back and watch the asses....*GRIN* ) After a long night, the breeder brought out his big dog and showed us blading with the dog. This is something i hope we can achieve in the future! hahahha..
Breeder also showed us how to interact with big dogs (basically big dog need to calm down and let comet do his sniffing before he become comfortable to interact with the big one).
Still a lot of work to do! And even though its only been a week since we brought the little bugger home, it feels like we've had him for a few months..... !
Oh and Comet's ok with the Crate. He's mostly quiet though fidgety when trying to find a comfy spot to rest. Last night i woke up about 2 times to bring him to the pee tray in my toilet to do his peeing which was good. Though pooping wise.... is still a big mess...

pun intended :p

renovation update...

popped by today to loft painted so freshly that the chemicals stung our noses and made us tear.

but we braved the fumes for a look at the coolness bedrooms. =)

just over a week to the end of renovations and under two weeks to moving in!

lofty works underway...

after days of running around and making decorating decisions, we're done.

or at least the fundamentals are.

i was extremely happy to see white-washed walls monday. a nice and clean slate for a new, totally disruptive environment. =)

dancing in the moonlight...

now if only that were true.

last night was comet's first night in his brand new crate, in our room.

short of shifting around a little here and there, he was pretty okay.

and just like clockwork, he started making his little noises at just after 6am. we were planning to wake up at 6.30am.

i didn't get much rest because i was acutely aware of the new presence in our room. my eyes snapped open at every sound that came from the crate, and i'd grunt to assure comet of our presence. i also kept time of the little fella's toilet breaks.

pre-sleeping activities last night included a walk around the tanjong rhu area with jac, who wanted to check the little tyke out. she wanted to take ollie out as well, but he was so tired he had to stay home.

but we headed up to her apartment after the stroll. ollie made like the puppy he thinks he is (he's really huge in dog) and lunged toward comet excitedly. the little boy backed away and hid in the corner.

the night there ended with little improvement on that front except for the part when ollie edged closer to comet on all fours. that was pretty much as close as they got without incident.

we hope little comet will become socialized in due time as we let him interact more with our friends' dogs. and that he will become less of a wuss he still is today. =P
