listen to the rhythm of the falling rain....

wow studying sure is hard. I mean its only the 2nd week and wifey's got tons of homework, a quiz today and lotsa reading to do. Added to that are the CCAs and gettin' love from the hubby. Packed packed life my wifey leads

*HUGS*

i hope she can find the rhythm and settle in soon so that she wun be so stressed and all..

so today's raining pretty hard and i can't meet wifey for lunch. Oh well, that's ok. cos what she has in store for us tomorrow (for my birthday!) is gonna be so cool.
First we gonna go have a buffet lunch @ Marriot, then Gold Class tickets for Ratatoieee (dunno how to spell :p ) and then whatever else that comes our way for the evening.
Now might be a good time to reflect how things have changed from 30 to 31.

1) I got married *GRIN*
2) I am waking up to my wife beside me *GRIN* x 2
3) I go to bed with my wife beside me *GRIN* x 3
4) I got a plan for the near future (i.e. apartment, dog, kid, car in that order)
5) I got a new PC
6) I got a new Job
7) I am regularly playing WoW

So how are things you might ask?

Dammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm GOOD :P

"here i am, listening to the rhythm,
the rhythm of the falling rain,
looking out at all the gloom,
but bright sunshine in my heart"

how sweet it is...

...to be loved by you.

snuffy hubby gets me so weak in the knees.

he makes me feel like i can take on so much, and not feel like i'm being totally bogged down.

of course, he's got to be by my side as i mug away at school or work. =P

it's his birthday this coming wednesday...the first of many we will celebrate together in marriage.

i absolutely love being married to my snuffy hubby. =)

Thursday, August 23, 2007

i'm closing in on my first week at school and here's the round-up, starting with the most recent...

the lecturer of the business, society and government class held a little get-together for the classes he taught tonight on one of the schools' rooftops. =)

check out the beautiful view...

and the little enclaves upstairs are oh-so-dear...kinda feels a little like being on the rooftop of the mount emily hostel.

it was like any other classy evening on the veranda, with local finger food (the curry puffs were yummy!) and the staple pizza.

and the classmates, who found a talking point in me being married.

of course, i gushed loads too. =P

here's see yun, lynn and ricky.

i left the party early, after we scuttered indoors as it started pouring.

snuffy hubby swung by to grab me from the library building in such a downpour...and we headed over to serangoon to attend a friend's wake. =(

i remember feeling really weird reading that sms from one of the scout guys this morning, telling us that zhihao passed away early this morning.

he had lost his battle with colon cancer. at 28.

sigh.

it's sad to hear of such things, but one's gotta look up, ahead and try not to get too existentialist and miss out on smelling the roses.

after all, we never quite know when our time'll run out.

so we move on and try to smell the roses around you...and for me, that means learning to be a student again.

here's the freshman group i was to have been attached to during camp.

(i couldn't go, but joined them at convocation anyways...)

snuffy hubby was sweet enough to be with me on my first occasion as a new student, hold my hand, and reassure me that i'd do good.

and last, but not least, i caught a glimpse of this on a wall while waiting for one of my lectures to start...

linux has something this cute...mac has the apple with all its coolness effects...

it's about bloody time microsoft jazzed up its image! =P

school's a brand new experience, for a brand new mrs teo. =)

quickie

now that wifey has started sch, there are now chances where we can have a quickie... er i mean. QUICK BITE to eat... for lunch la (all u yellow minded pple.. tsk tsk tsk :P)

and its so cool cos i get to see her at least during halftime and then have our own ra-ra for each other to continue the rest of the day till we see each other again in the evening....

very recommended to have half-time shows like this cos it sure perks u up and gives u the extra BOOST to continue the rest of the day *groan*....

881

we've always treaded carefully with local films, but knew that there was something about Royston Tan's movies which captures the various facets of local emotion.

as we walked out of the cinema after watching 881 this evening, all four of us (including snuffy hubby and the two colleagues) were like..."eat your heart out, jack neo".

881 is funny without being slapstick or flakey.

it manages to infuse humor in its most emotional scenes and make them work.

and it comes at a perfect time, during the chinese lunar calendar's seventh month, and looks set to endear the yearly getai performances to the younger local crowd.

we were especially impressed by the elaborate costumes and how he managed to weave in the story of a late getai king, and get the past and current getai stars to make cameo appearances in the film.

does it inspire me to go catch a getai performance during the month?

well...no.

but the movie's given me such an insight into the lives of getai singers and the code they have to abide by that i have a renewed respect for such performers.

if i happen to walk past a show though, i'll be sure to keep an eye out for the familiar faces we chanced upon in the movie.

it's bloody hard work to be running around from show to show during the season!

fantastic work, Roystan Tan!

omg ! huntard grinding ftw!

so i've been leveling a hunter for a while now (21hr, 51mins) and she's now lvl 20....
here a pic of her with her first kitty cat

so i, feeling like a pokemon catcher, decided to try to get the rather cool translucent ghost saber. So off to darkshore i went. The journey was slightly dangerous but i managed to finally reach the area and start looking. Initially i had no idea what i was suppose to look for but after some trial and error i finally saw the cat figurines. Then it was up to me to open them and clear the area for one ghost saber to appear. When i was level 18, 1 did appear but it was lvl 20 so i cant tame it. Bummer...

but finally, after maybe abt 3 hours? and 19 figurines, and dinging 20, finally a lvl19 ghost saber appeared and i quickly tamed it :)

now its sitting @ -7 training points and it died on me once... still i'm satisfied and very excited :P
Got my wifey to name it for me hhaahaha

are we all part of a computer simulation... ?

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/whoooaa%2C-duuuuuude/apparently-we-all-exist-only-in-a-computer-simulation-in-the-future-bummer-289426.php

this is a very interesting read. Apparently some Oxford philosopher commented that there is quite a good chance that we are all part of a computer simulation....

Interesting yea? What is more witty are the comments attached to the article.

I never quite understood the purpose of philiosphy and thinking so much about notions etc. Some time ago in my youth (eegads.. am i old now? :P) whenever i was too free, i would day dream.. and start to wonder..
wonder about life...
wonder where i am going..
wonder about death..
wonder who will be around me when i die....
wonder what will i be doing then after i die...
wonder and wonder....

i realise that if i wonder too much, it becomes very depressing.. for there are so many things in the world, the good and the bad that kinda negates each other. The saying goes that there are always 2 sides to a coin. if that is so, then wat for are we doing good things or bad things if ultimately it will be negated? Or for that matter who's to say what we do is good or bad?

So these thoughts go on and on and on and i realise that there is actually very little point to thinking so much vs doing it. The nike slogan JUST DO IT is quite apt really. Sometimes don't think so much, just go do it..

But of cos doing without any thought is also dangerous....

so why do we need philiosphers really? and how wonderful is it to be paid to just sprout stuff off the top of yr head.. as long as they trigger discussion and maybe even some brillant breakthrough?

what do u tink?

who was born on the same day as u?

Very interesting hyperlink... http://www.born-today.com/Choose_bDay.htm

so who are the well-known people that was born on the same day as me?
1) Ingrid Bergman (1915).. mother of Isabella Rossellini
2) John McCain (1936)
3) Elliott Gould (1938) ... Married to Barbra Streisand
4) Michael Jackson (1958)

same day as my wife...
1) Johann Sebastian Bach (1685)
2) Timothy Dalton (1946) - English Actor
3) Gary Oldman (1958) - Married to Uma Thurman
4) Matthew Borderick (1962) - Married to Sarah Jessica Parker
5) Rosie O'Donnell (1962)

so who are the famous pple born the same date as u? :P

A red-nosed day...

having left school for nearly six years, today was quite an eye-opener for me.

sure hope those first impressions i've had today don't last through the next few years.

snuffy hubby's family brought us both to this japanese buffet restaurant for dinner.

just walking by the buffet line was a buzz in itself. =P

desserts were pretty good as well, with us having extreme fun with our food...

our relationship is peppered with these moments daily.

i'm a lucky girl. =)

Gotta Catchem' all!

So i havent stopped playing WoW.. but i've gotten to a point in my guild that i can't regularly join them for their raids to Kara or even the 25-man instances. Typically, after work, i'll go look up my wifey, wait for her to finish before heading back home. Have dinner and bathe and depends on what we do, see if I can log in some time for WoW. Nowadays wifey's been pretty busy with take-home work and trying to finish up her Harry Potter book so i go on my daily WoWing "rituals" :p

my active chars are:

1) Zeblackwidow lvl 70 Rogue. Moved to Nagrand to join the rest of the GUild (used to be Leilomo now Unrated). She's been to Kara a few times, manage to get nice purple gloves but otherwise always hard to find a group for her to go the places she wants to go. Just this weekend she finally managed to get her T3 Tunic (yay i have TWO items of the set of 5 now). Hopefully in the future she can either go Kara or get lucky in the dungeons... but otherwise she's pretty boring to play nowadays...

2) Letmehealyou lvl 28 Priest.... boy.. leveling her is SO SLOWWWWWWWWW....... i remembered why now i rerolled the rogue (my VERY first char was a gnome lock..) because during parties i have to stand back and throw fruits at people... oh wait... dats not right...but you get the idea. Priest-wise i have to throw heals here and there.. Amazingly i've been in some bad pugs (guild's mostly 70s...) and i have to work my ass off to make sure everyone's all right at the end. Still, the levelling's tough....

3) Zehuntard lvl 14 hunter... now this toon i love. She's such a fun to level and after reading all the BRK posts (much thanks BRK, lotsa help your blog did render!) , I JUST had to try one hunter. She sure is fun to play. I quickly rushed to get my pet and now having quite a lot of fun with Kitty. Reminds me of Pokemon and after much research I am pretty sure I should be able to level her up fast, grab lotsa skins, become a good leatherworker and have my holy trinity of pets to go instancing with,.... hehehe

i think i know why i have quite alot of fun playing with my rogue/warlock/hunter....because these chars have interesting play dynamics. Rogue can disappear and fullfills my boyish fantasy to be a ninja (*POOF*)... warlock fullfills the "i-wanna-be-evil" fantasy.... and hunter..... i think its the "i-wana-have-pet" fantasy.... being a tank and a healer just seems to.... straightforward to me though.. BUT, that being said, its sad how most pple aren't always looking for a lock/rogue/hunter... they are mostly looking for a tank/healer (which explains why i rolled a priest alt)...sigh.. nevertheless, i shall attempt to see how fast i can level my huntard :p

GO Zehuntard! Go BM spec! GO Kitty ! GO BRK ! :)

wifey's still interested to play :) she just got her macbook pro and should be much more smoother playin than her previous notebook or ibook...

maybe once she started school, her school schedule has settled, we have tied down the gazillion things we wanna do (i.e. tango, salsa more, diving, her driving, samba, cooking) etc... then we can schedule like maybe 1 hr a week to play together....she's playnig a Priest and I have my pally on my previous server....

Hooked on LSG

i got a confession to make....
i am very guilty of something....

that is...
i'm hooked on LSG...

or more commonly known as LittleSuperheroGirl....
now what are the symptoms u say ?
well... immense need to see/hug/kiss LSG
and you feel all tired and uncomfy the whole day if you don't wake up with LSG...
and you feel all tired and moody if you come back from a hard day's work without seeing LSG

I'm hooked on LSG... and i'm PROUD OF IT!

:P

All about corrinne may...

heard on the radio about this competition to win her tickets i think.. so i emailed wifey who emailed me the details...
write into an sms why corrinne may is impt to you and send..
wifey asked me what i wrote..

"She helped bring my wife and me together with her songs"

to which my wife replied

"SAME!!"

omg... so in synch we are that its bordering on uncanny :P

and yesterday was the first NDP we watched together... well... even though its on tv.. still :)

now i'm contemplating taking up photography courses @ objectifs..

anyone has any experience? or should i go and take more pics as xp and don't waste the $$?

Food and company...

it's amazing to be watching sydney poitier and what he stands for.

perhaps i should read measure of a man.

after i'm done with the nasty bits, harry potter and confessions of an ugly stepsister.

the mom, hubby and me were on the NEL heading back home when we discovered this position by fluke.

that's S.H.E in a bausch and lombe ad, by the way. =P

snuffy hubby and me had dinner with my brother at the japanese soba restaurant this evening, and then headed over the canele for desserts.

and how rare it is for us to walk in and find a spot!

unfortunately though, most of the beautifully-sculpted desserts on display were sold out.

but the ice cream was FANTABULOUS. oh my gosh...if only i could post taste.

snuffy hubby had one called 66%, my brother had earl grey, and i had the nougatine.

the 66% and earl grey came decorated with minimalist broken down pieces of dark and milk chocolate.

mine came with caramelized filo pastry. just the way i like it. =)

nougat ice cream with hazelnut pieces inside. mmmm....=P

and we came home to fine these two waiting for us outside the room...

The Wedding - Post Action Reports Part 2

Part 2 - Actual Day
Oh must mention, our ad photog, the night before, called me and ask me if i can send over another copy of the program schedule etc to her because she lost/misplaced/dog ate it the one we gave to her quite some time back when the list was prepared.
I was like "???!??!?!!!?!" ... good lord... shows u how professional she is now doesn't it ?

[ADVICE] Get the chance to talk to your AD photog... if she/he seems inexperienced or doesn't even know how to get to your meeting place, chances are its not worth the $. Get someone else. If you can't get someone else? make sure the photog has all the information he/she needs (i.e. maps, tel numbers, etc). Else make sure you get friends as backup photogs. More photogs, the more photographs u get, the better...

So early morning i woke up, got ready. One of my coat's button came undone so had to sew it up. Mom to the rescue.. On wifey's side, from what i understood, the makeup artist came late. REALLY late. Our schedule was lined up really tight due to the constraints we have from the artshouse (short time window to do anything) so we had to squeeze and make sure everything ran on time. Again this the case of our side is all settled, but other pple can screw things up...
It was raining quite heavily as well thus the makeup artist was late. So once my brothers were ard, we ate some breakfast and then headed off to wifey's place to pick her up. I drove out before i realised i forgotten the bouquet of flowers! so we drove back and pick it up. :p

[ADVICE] As soon as you can, put all the items you need to bring into the car or with your brothers.

[ADVICE] Make sure your breakfast consist of easy to pop-in-your-mouth items and won't stain your teeth. Tao Sar Pau is a bad idea :p

[ADVICE] Prepare umbrellas, especially in the car

[ADVICE] If you have prepared the best of your abilities and other pple proceed to screw you up? Chill and smile.. because its their problem not yours and there is nothing you can do about it... so might as well enjoy your day :) Of course arrange for backups. Backup photogs, backup makeup artist .... hopefully your bunch of frens that are there (i.e. brothers and sisters) can take on some of these roles..

[ADVICE] Always have a sewing kit and lotsa pins ready in case of wardrobe emergencies

[ADVICE] try to confirm again those that are driving have cars on the day itself. Else you might find yourself with a transport crunch!

When the car arrived at her place, it was pouring. Eugene (wife's brother) came and open the door. The umbrella sheltering him was rather small so poor eugene got drenched :(. After some time-wasting (cos she wasn't ready and the videographer wasn't downstairs yet) we got to the lift. The customary cheering and shouting we went upstairs and prepared for the worse.. :P
Now originally i had a plan: my brothers would distract them while i go 1 more floor upstairs and then run thru the corridor and come down the other staircase and then surprise them. This would have worked if the sisters had setup "challenges" along the corridor. Luckily for me there wasn't :) So the sistas did their "thing"... the brothers did their "thing" and i got in and "took" my wife.. something like that.. hahah.. Then it was going back to my place for the tea ceremony. Here in there was another issue. Apparently our ad photog din manage to get a ride with my best man.. luckily she got another fren to come wif her (to take pics) so she got a lift. HOWEVER, neither really knew how to get to my place (faint)....so i got my best man to give directions whilst i concentrate on driving ourselves safely to my place.

[ADVICE] Try to get your ad photog aquainted with whoever is the best man or the brothers. Again see my previous advice about ad photogs....

[ADVICE] Make sure you hang on to your ang bao feverishly and bargain! but don't be unsporting though else it spoils the whole experience :)

Reaching my place, we took pics, had the tea ceremony. Here i have to thank my brother for making sure the line moves swiftly. I think he must have been quite stressed about the whole thing but its good that everything went quite quickly. Afterwards, its on to the wedding venue and our wedding itself!

[ADVICE] Get someone to be in charge of the tea ceremony and make sure he/she knows who's suppose to be next in line to take the seat etc.

When we reach the place, we had heard from various pple that the place was in a mess, we are surprised that there are still pple hanging ard outside etc. We kinda expected that more pple would have been seated and waiting by now. The outside portion seemed rather hectic. I can't comment much as we were busy chatting with frens, saying hi, congrats, when is your turn ah? etc :P ...But all in all things still got done and soon it was time to get pple seated down and ready for us to enter :) The MCs did their jobs well, the JP got ready at the table and we got ready to walk in. The doors were opened a little too early though and thus our first 2 sisters got basked in the white light for some time before wifey gave the signal to move and so our brothers and sistas walked gracefully admist soap bubbles floating everywhere to take their place in front of us. We waiting and i must've looked so anxious till wifey nudged me and we walked down the aisle :) We waved, we smiled, we laughed and our mickey mouse hands must've been a sight! Mom montioned for me to look behind and we did and waved to the crowd. Just what we wanted.

[ADVICE] Try to ensure that the pple in charge know what the sequence of events is like. However if things are too spontaneous, then play by ear :)

[ADVICE] Make sure you have 1 overall-in-charge of everything and that he/she is some multi-tasking guru. Things CAN get very messy and hectic but as long as the engine is humming along. things will be fine :)

[ADVICE] At this point, you should NOT be controlling anything. Leave it all to your capable brothers and sistas and trust that you have briefed them sufficiently and they all know what to do and most imptly, they want to see u happy and yr dreams come true... :) If not.... then... erm.. good luck to u! ehheehe

So the we took our seats and the JP started speaking... Honestly? I started glazing over and trying to think of what to say (we have both decided to wing our vows....).. wifey swear she saw me glaze over as i did not acknowledge her when she looked at me *sheepish grin*... Then thewe stood up and took our LEGAL vows. Here the jp made a mistake. He mispronouced my name. At the very first time, i was contemplating if i should ...er....correct him.. but i felt maybe shouldn't disrespect him. Wifey later told me she also was very amused and was wondering if she should correct him too. If you look at the video of us, you can see our bewildered faces :) Sigh.... my name has been mispronounced for so many times that's why i took up the name Eric. Well that was part of the reason... another part is because it means "princely" :P So then we made our own vows... wifey sang a song to me (have i told u i love her voice? hehehee ) and then i sang a little bit too and then VIOLA... hubby and wifey... *giggle*

[ADVICE] Make sure one of the brothers go thru with the JP the name pronounciations.. MAKE SURE ... else can be quite embarassing....

[ADVICE] winging vows is fun and can be very spontaneous... however think it thru in yr head before the words come out of your mouth and get recorded for all time :) Please pple, make sure it goes thru the big brain...

Oh our parents then proceeded to come up and sign on the dotted lines to officiate the occasion. Then we had our thank you speeches, we showed a video of the anime that one of Josee's students did. Apparently she is a fan of our blog and had drew us a booklet of our special moments :) We just had to show it and invite her to our wedding. So glad she could make it hehehe.. and then after that, it was photo taking session. We had decided to stagger the photo taking so some pple can go have the food whilst we take pictures in the nice chambers itself with the different social groups. This was a bit messy as it is not easy to get so many pple to come together quickly and smile and take pics. Experienced photog is a MUST. Our ad photog here wasn't too bad. Then take more pics and stuff and we proceeded out to mingle.

[ADVICE] Again, if yr ad photog is experienced, she/he can handle this part. If not, then get one of your brothers/sistas to be the floor manager so to speak :)

Mingling was the main objective of ours. We wanted a setup where we can walk ard, talk to pple we havent met and have pple talk amongst themselves generally be at ease rather than set them down with 9 other pple whom they may or may not know and then kinda lock them down there. So mingling we did. So much that i din really get a chance to venture into the catering area. So much that we din get anything to eat though we heard the food was great (YAY!) Initially our timeline was rather tight but one interesting side effect of not providing tables to sit down and eat is that guests tend to leave early or leave once they are full or have mingled enough. So surprisingly 30 mins before we were thinking of asking guests to vacate the premises, most have already left on their own accord. We had the chance then to talk to those that stayed till the end and i think we had a good time :) I hope they did as well!

[ADVICE] Make sure u designate someone to gather all your impt things for you to bring back home (i.e. wedding cert, ang bao box etc)

[ADVICE] Again, leave it to your overall in charge to process everything else you might be ovewhelmed.

[ADVICE] If possible, purchase or loan a portable Harddisk from your friends, the type that can slot in memory cards so you can immediately copy the pictures taken by your friends to look at without waiting for them to get back to you.

So the wedding part was done, we adjourned to wifey's place to do the tea ceremony there. Things moved on pretty quickly then. We had some food there and i got to eat mother-in-law's famous mango pomelo dessert! OMG its to die for :p wifey had some po piahs. So the job was done for the ad photog, videographer and my "brother". We drove on to visit my great grandma. Then afterwards i went to top up the petrol for the mini, clean it and return it to my fren.
day was done! well mostly. we had a family dinner in the evening and wanted to go salsa but we decided to pack our bags and chill instead. The next morning we got up bright and early and reach the air port @ 4am ish for breakfast with the families again before we flew off to USA for our HONEYMOON! :)

more coming later in part 3 :)

Cruising through the weekend...

Last weekend was spent on a cruise ship with my in-laws :) They are experienced cruisers so we got to go with them as a side benefit.
What does one do on a cruise ship? well mostly chillin', eatin', gamblin', gamin' :)
We played some jackpot this time (no table games for me) and it lasts a bit longer than with table games (cos they cost at least $25 a pop and i was only prepared to "sacrifice" $100). We also played a LOT of board games that i brought on board and watched TV.
Eating was ok since i wasnt very enticed to eat a lot...

Funny things that happened on the ship? Well my mother-in-law was at the buffet table and holding those thongs to pickup food when this older lady just casually took the thong from her hands and proceeded to pick her own food up. My mom-in-law could only look at that older lady in shock at her rudeness...
amazing sometimes the pple u meet on board..

we tried those aqua pools but concluded that its not as shiok as swimming in a real pool...

u know, when u go on a cruise, u see mostly the elderly pple who are gambling. And then you see how much they gamble away and you wonder, OMG, how much $$ do these pple earn anyway? Or how much allowance from their kids do they get that allow them to spend so much on gambling? And some of these elderly pple are regulars, meaning they come at least once a month! hmmm... and the amt of $$ starcruise earns must be staggering....

let me contemplate on this on our next cruise in another weekend's time :p

The Wedding - Post action reports Part 1

I think its about time to have a post action report and talk about what as happened before, during and after the wedding, the good points and not so good points. Hopefully those gettin' married will get something out of this :)

Now a typical wedding is usually broken up into 3 major parts and then subsequently these parts have their own sub-parts.
First is PLANNING, then comes EXECUTION and finally POSTMORTEM..
Lets start with Planning.
For us i think originally we just wanted to see what else is available since we had all of about a couple of months (abt 6+) to plan, book and all that jazz for a wedding. First thing we did was to attend a wedding convention (since the timing was just nice when we got back from the proposal holiday in HK). However at that time we din really have a plan or idea where to have our wedding. My initial intention was to book a bridal studio first and then go about finding a place. At the convention we happen to stumble onto the studio that Serene's cousin had engaged before. She loved the wedding pics that they took then and it was rather good. So after talking with them and well, being inexperienced that i am with weddings (D-UH), we decided to go with them and their standard package and on the hope that they will deliver what they promised. We din really bargain as much cos... well... we're the sort that do not really like to bargain (surprised? :P) Some advice here....

[ADVICE] Wedding conventions are actually quite good as they bring most of the bridal studios together and you can then compare and look etc and bargain. Remember to compare and then bargain your heart out! NO MERCY!
[ADVICE] It would be extremely helpful to have a plan of what you want. Things to look out for would be:
1) how many changes of clothing do you need (Made to Measure dresses r usually more expensive than off the shelf)
2) studio photography and albums (i.e. how many albums you require. how many standing portraits you require or would like to have)
3) wedding car + deco
4) actual day photography
5) deco for following cars
6) whether they provide changes for your bestmen and bridesmaids and even the parents
7) some form of gurantee would be good
8) what happens if you do not require all the bells and whistles of the package

After getting the studio down (we thought it was a big step), we went about looking for a nice place. Now we did look at a few places like raffles hotel and marina mandrain but wifey was looking for something more special. So we were looking at Sentosa (beaufort) but it was majorly expensive and a little bit inconvenient. Bargaining wasnt that good either ("oh we are exclusive and on sentosa thus we do not give any other discounts..."). There was a very nice lawn which we could have had our wedding ceremony outdoors BUT the little patch of greenery cost us another $2k+ if i remember correctly. *FAINT* I brought my parents over to take a look at the place and they weren't that receptive. Then one day wifey had a moment of inspiration and mentioned "The Arts House". I was like "oh yea ! lets go today and take a look". So we did and immediately loved the place. Now the wedding day (is a very very popular day) was kinda booked but luckily for us the in-charge from Arts House mentioned they still have the morning. So we grabbed at the chance and BOOM.. Arts house it is. I can't tell you how ecstatic we were that evening after i booked for the place :). Now we had to settle the other things and luckily here, wifey has a few aces up her sleeves....:p

[ADVICE] Keep looking out for places for your wedding. If you want unconventional, there are several interesting options in Singapore. Namely the Asian Civilisation Museum, Arts Museum, National Museum and even the Arts house which can offer unique alternatives to the tradditional hotels. Even fort canning and those wine places at Dempsey are wonderful cosy alternatives.
[ADVICE] Remember to bargain and ask for stuff. Usually things like projector and projector screens and mics etc they will charge. HOWEVER they can also provide for you FOC. All depends on your bargaining power. What you can probably bargain for:
1) Extra hotel night stay
2) Free mics
3) Free use of projector and projector screen
4) Better cutlery used
5) Lower liquor charges
6) Free barrel of beer or tranlate into a few bottles of wine
7) Late check out, early check in
8) Better menu (if you are in a hotel)
9) Wedding cake / champagne pouring.
10) For deco, insist on fresh flowers and sample pics so you have an idea how it will turn out

So since the Arts House do not provide fanciful deco and the default caterer is from the restaurant 1827 (and was sinfully expensive), we had to look elsewhere for our deco and stuff. Luckily wifey knows someone who can do deco. So we roped him in, got him to take a look at our wedding venue and suggest and quote us. So that's done. Food wise we were looking at a few caterers and the food they were serving. My salsa friend Pauline (thanks yous!) gave a few very good suggestions, like where to have wedding venue, where to get good wedding cakes and good caterers. So if you are ever dry for ideas, can ask Pauline if she has any good ones to share :) So we contacted the caterer and setup for a paid sample testing. We had the sample testing with our MCs and it was really good food. Good service and good food so we went ahead with them. From the post-wedding reports, the food was really good so we are glad that panned out :)

What's next? Informing ROM. This is rather simple procedure and all you have to do is go to the URL and follow instructions. Basically it involves applying online and then waiting till about 1 month till the wedding date? They will then ask you to go down to ROM. There, you and your spouse will sign stuff, say oaths to ensure you aren't bluffing the ROM or each other etc :p and viola, you got your Certs. Before this however you must already have a JP/Priest and have approached them to ask for their concent in marrying you 2. JP for us was a rather easy decision and we were requested to meet up with him about 3 times for him to get to know us better before he concents to presiding over the proceedings. Yay!

[ADVICE] Do taste test the food and to ensure that they will be acceptable by most of your guests. We are lucky in that the food we liked we are pretty sure most pple will like as, well, wifey and me, we eat almost anything (k she more than me since i dun do chilli stuff heehehe)
[ADVICE] If you are doing caterer, check out how many attendants there will be, what cutlery they will be providing and setup and cleanup time they require. Even here you can bargain i suspect but well, we chose not to piss off those that will be serving us food (you never know and you wouldn't want that longan to start moving now right?)
[ADVICE] Get a JP early especially if you are getting married on a busy day. Helps if you know the JP personally as it will make things easier and more personable.

Now with most of the things running quite smoothly, were there any issues you might ask.
Yes. There most definitely was. And surprisingly, it comes from our bridal studio.
~SIGH~
First time we went there we had a good notion of what the wedding gown would look like. Wifey had bought a magazine the last time she was in states and fell in love with an advertorial of a gown. So when we brought the magazine over to our designer, he immediately had a similar sample for us to try. This is because previously someone else had seen the same ad and had approached them to design the dress based on the ad too. Wifey tried the dress and was excited and happy. Yay. I tried on a couple of stuff and settled on a white china collar as i looked best in that. Yay.
Then came the wedding dress "incident" which i shall not get into now....so we went back and tweaked the designs around. Ultimately though the outcome was much better than the ad and we are still happy. The designer, i think, should be given the Most valuable employee award. Throughout this whole... ordeal.. he was patient and attentive and you can tell he wanted to make sure the customer is happy. I can't say the same for some of the other pple that handled us there. Nothing much else to say about the clothing because we only had 1 set and the designer did a good job with wife's gown.

[ADVICE] Make sure you go and try your suit/gown at least 3 times and at least 1 time just a week before wedding for any alterations and stomach growing (heeehee).
[ADVICE] make sure your suit buttons are attached firmly and that the gown and suit is comfortable for whole day wear.

Now by this time we know that we don't need a lot of the bells and whistles that they provided us. So we tried to bargain them away. Not much leeway they can give us. Mostly they gave the reason that the stuff we din want comes at no cost from the studio anyway, so can't give us much discount. The bridal studio was kinda a bit too specialised. They din have inhouse Actual day photogs but they recommended someone to us. The sample photos they showed us wasn't too inspiring but well, since we wanted to have a bargain with the studio on the stuff we din want, we just went ahead. Besides we had our good frens there who can cover for the ad photog if things screw up (More on this in Part 2). Even the wedding car they din discount for us and was rather expensive. In the end we decided to go with Elaine's Mini cooper which was nice cream colored and I could drive the wifey myself! :)

[ADVICE] Same as what i suggested before when choosing a bridal package, ask them about their actual day photog and ask to see samples of their work. If you have the time, meet up and talk to them to get a grasp on how they are and their skillsets.
[ADVICE] Look around, even online for cars that you want to make into your bridal car. Most bridal studios provide the standard cars so boring.... Friends are a lot of help in this too. Originally we would have had a vintage jaguar but then there was some issues. Luckily i had other friends with nice cars too :)

Then comes studio photography. Oh.. one thing to note, throughout the process, we were always compelled to call them to ask when is the fitting, when is the meeting with their photog etc because information wasn't forthcoming and we were worried. When the package was sold on us, they assured us that they will be proactive and all that but often we had to call back to ask and see if they were still alive. When they sold us the package, they told us their chief photog was someone that will sit with you and understand who you are and then able to suggest shots based on what you are like or would prefer. NOPE. This din happen. Mostly we just suggested stuff and he just went "Ok" "Sure" "no problem"..... We must have been the easiest customer they ever had since we did most of the thinking for them...More importantly, we weren't demanding at all i reckon. We din ask for change of clothing, din need clothing for our bridesmaids and best men and basically din ask for too much. Yet the service standard we got was truely disappointing. During our photoshoot itself, the photog did suggest poses etc but nothing creatively fantastic or got us excited. All those pics you see of our album? we did most of the good ones ourselves (i.e. the toys, the back shot etc). We din ask for very far flung places and the photog din suggest any new places other than the ones we suggested to go to.

[ADVICE] During choosing of package stage, see if you can talk to the photog to get a sense of what he/she can/cannot do. Test him and see if he can suggest places that you wouldn't normally have thought of. Being anal now would help later :p

Then came time to look at the pics he took. Mostly? it was.... ok. Nothing WOWy or wet-my-pants good.. just .... ok. Now here is the point where you may end up adding more $$ to your package. Bargain and push. Then we went back again to look at the post-processing of the pics. Initially we were quite disappointed with the "creativeness" of the whole album. Its not like we are demanding or reaching for the stars, but his whole concept and all that din do it for us. So we ended up going back for 2 days and sitting down with his assistant do go over the photoshopping, placements of the pics and even adding in the words of the song "Grow Old with you" by Adam Sandler. 2 WHOLE DAYS. OMG.. i think i got a summon also for parking there.... %^&$%^#$%@#$%..... When it came to collecting the pics, the album itself was fantastic. But of cos since WE were the creative geniuses behind the thing. The coffeetable albums he promised us was... disappointing. He just slotted the pics into an album and that was it. Well we din ask / specify so bummer on us :( We are so glad though that at least the album turned out ok....
~SIGH~

[ADVICE] Make sure you ask specifically what each photo item in the package is. I.e. coffeetable book? what does that look like?
[ADVICE] For the addition of stuff to your package, make sure you bargain. There are some things like sample pics they printed out for you to choose those for your album, request for those. I mean what are they gonna do with it?
[ADVICE] usually they need like a week or so for printing and binding and stuff. We initially thought they won't be able to make it and pass it back to us by the deadline HE specified. But apaprently it doesn't take all that long to print and bind. STILL we wasted a weekend sitting there and going thru all that shit....

Lets see... what else is there?.... Ah... the last 2 things before our wedding day. The car deco and bouquet of flowers. This is another sore point. We asked for a simple deco for the car because we felt that it was quite a nice car already. When we came back to look at the deco.. it was TRUELY..... simple. I had to ask for flowers on the door handles and ask for MORE else it looks just too plain. I mean COME ON... we aren't asking for much but those we ask for at least do it swee swee for us ma....And even those flowers he used on the car was fake. I seen some really nice live ones but apparently... "that's all we have for props in our shop....".......

[ADVICE] Ask for sample pics of car deco. Live flowers look really nice. Ask them what props or ideas they have for the car. The "Just Married' sign we have was suggested by them. BUT they did not have it. So we made one ourselves....

The flowers.. the flowers. When i first received it, we both realised that some of the roses were burnt.. or looked bad! I asked our photog (cos he's apparently the creative genius of the shop D-UH) why it is like this. He was rather flippant about it and mentioned he can trim it for us. THAT IS NOT THE POINT!!! So we can't be bothered with him and i went in to ask someone else about the flowers. The lady who serviced us (she's another employee i would reward) was very apologetic and shocked at the state and tried to get the floral shop for us before suggesting if its ok to trim the roses. NOW at least she tried and was really concerned for us. She seemed perturbed by the photog's response also when she asked him about it. Ultimately she had to go to the floral shop and then took a cab down herself to my place and hand me the bouquet with more apologies. THIS is service above and beyond what I expected from the place after a few months of interacting with them and I am really grateful for her for taking us seriously.

[ADVICE] Make sure you check the flowers. They shouldn't be handing you a bouquet of flowers that look burnt or dirty or bad!
[ADVICE] Try to pin the corsages the night before so that you won't panic and waste time the next morning :)

So the end of part 1 and as you can tell, what is the first to confirm and supposedly the one that will cause you the least grief end up giving us the MOST concern and unhappiness. It made us think that we probably could have done it better if we ran everything ourselves. Might be more work and maybe a bit more $$ but, judging from the other adhoc stuff we pulled together, we would have been more than JUST satisfied.

Part 2 when i have more time :)

i remember this post...

HOW MUCH DO I LOVE THEE

let me count the ways...

with a diamond ring?

with an alaskan cruise?

with a home entertainment system?

let me cash that in for...

two ring pops.

two rubber floats.

and a set of monopoly.

and if we've got some left over, perhaps two front row tickets to see the wizard of oz.

or...

let's just keep it in the college fund.

***************

we've got the rings, gone for a cruise, played various boardgames...

and watched wicked.

and i'm going to college!

november dreamin' pretty much came true.
