Randy Pausch - RIP

Was watching the news after a long slightly ok day @ Universal Studios @ Hollywood and found out that Randy Pausch has lost his battle with cancer this morning.

What an inspiration, what a man, i can only hope i am about 1% of what he was and what he had achieved in his lifetime.

hiya all from super sunny, muggy and sweaty new york! This is day 4 of our USA trip 2008. So far its been a lot a LOT of walking. Thing is, since we've been here before, we kinda know where to go, thus our trip so far has been very focused. Furthermore, we can't really buy a lot of things, not unless we want to pay a lot for our luggage from here to Las Vegas and LA. So its not much shopping in NY and lots of walking and window shopping.

The musicals we watched though were quite good. Mom and bro watched Hairspray last afternoon and we all watched In The Heights last night.

We lucked out yesterday with Hairspray cuz we were invited backstage for a brief view of the set by one of the stage hands who came to work early. =)

And the bro and I got pictures with Lin-Manuel Miranda from In The Heights! He's such an inspiration.

I also managed to snap a shot of Morgan Freeman's back...but we did see him turn around a wave after exiting the theater where his show with Frances McDormand and Peter Gallagher is playing.

Only in New York. =)

So here we are at the Apple Store, siphoning its internet access.

Pump it up!

so a colleague was telling me she got robbed this morning. Apparently her car parked in one of the nearby roads near Raffles hotel. The rear passenger window was broken and her laptop bag was stolen.
Now the funny thing is what was in this laptop bag.
it contained:
1) some to-do lists
2) some Mr Bean vouchers
3) an electronic breat pump (to extract milk out).

i would soooo love to see the faces on the burglars when they open the bag up! *GRIN*

all my bags are packed...

checked in online ..... DONE
ordered from amazon ..... DONE
packed bags (rather empty btw) ..... DONE
notified MINDEF ..... DONE
i guess now all we gotta do is be at the airport, have a birthday dinner for eugene @ the transit lounge and then board the plane

*GRIN*

wifey's somewhat bummed out today so i sure hope i will be bringing with me some T.L.C. over and cheer her right back up!

work wise, shit is flying everywhere.... might be interesting coming back as there seems to be some restructuring of teams. hope it doesn't all go to pieces when i come back!
best is if the shit is cleared.. but alas, its easier to strike toto than that happening :(

a little update before the hubby flies over...

there is a rose in spanish harlem...

i'm feeling rather pissed because i can't find my usb cable. so i can't upload my pictures from days 2 and 3 yet.

i can, however give an update on what we've been up to so far. =)

day 2 started off with a wacky morning at central park, where we saw lotsa poopies!

the met was next. we went just pretty much for the superhero and fashion exhibit. i figure the hubby will like that.

then some of us headed to a dog-adoption show called "broadway barks!", hosted by bernadette peters. i made a silent bid for a stuffed dog autographed by the cast of "in the heights", but i guess i didn't bid high enough. =P

dinner was at the supposedly OLDEST pizzaria in town called lombardi's. i'm not sure if the "oldest" bit is true, but the pizzas sure were good. we had one with spinach and wild mushrooms. yum.

now day 3 was more adventurous.

since most of the class opted to do some branded shopping in woodsbury, the few of us joined the professor in exploring some of the neighborhoods.

we succeeded in doing harlem, the bronx, chinatown, little italy, soho, and west 34th (where the shopping is).

now we have bronx bragging rights. =P

tomorrow's the start of our company visits and it'll be three days till the hubby arrives!

i'm excited about the progress i've made around new york city and where i can bring my family.

looking forward to getting more footage on my video cam and starting off with my script.

a pity i didn't have the foresight to shoot some in harlem. maybe we'll head back there again.

time for some snuffy snuggles. =)

pity there arent many good movies to watch on sq... dats a bummer...

snuffy hubby, you're the one...

the words came about in my mind to the tune of "rubber duckie". =P

day 1's in new york city has come and gone, and while it wasn't too bad, i'm not feeling as excited as i should.

perhaps i'm just waiting on next week's activities to start. because that would mean time zipping by and snuffy hubby would be arriving soon.

i still see new york with the same wonder i did years ago. especially when i'm walking alone in the city. the sense of empowerment it gives me is astounding, and i truly feel that anything could happen in new york.

while i'm still trying to gather my senses on how i feel, here're some pictures from day 1.

more pictures here.

sending all my love to you!

so i sent the wife off on her usa trip last thurs evening and i just can't wait to be with her next week when we fly over :) hopefully we will manage to buy some unique stuff for our house and it won't be too bulky that we can't bring it back to sg :p we have no idea what we are looking for specifically, but we will know when we see it *grin* Love u baby and have lotsa fun! if not, well, i will bring the fun to ya! :p

meanwhile, what is a hubby to do when the wifey is not around? well i got my PS3... also i am retrying the trial account for eve-online again. Recently WoW is rather lackluster for me so am just wondering what else i can do. The online games for ps3 are rather fun :) but i always been a better FPS-er using the keyboard and mouse rather than controller. Eve-online may seem rather complicated and is a different animal than WoW.. but man, the screenshots are glorious!

dress it up with the trappings of love.

yesterday, i told a classmate of mine how snuffy hubby and i maintain our relationship, and i started to miss him.

i thought about how we would not be seeing each other for a week, and how this is the first time - since our wedding - we'd really be away from each other.

at the same time, it wouldn't be too long before we get our keys, and move into something we can call our own.

so this trip represents more than a school study mission and a holiday.

it marks the beginning of our second year together and the onslaught of many changes to come, which we will face and deal with hand in hand.

on a brighter note, i'll be spending the next three weeks in the US, starting off with new york. snuffy hubby, my mom and bro will be joining me next week.

i have decided to do a reflective video piece on my trip, taking all my dreams of being a journalist in new york as a guiding theme. i'm finally able to do an assignment for me.

and i'm glad snuffy hubby will be there to hold my hand through the more emotional moments of doing the video.

i will miss him when i'm away. but i'm looking forward to seeing him again next thursday for our second honeymoon.

huggy boo. =)

peektures 07072008

ze food...

smile!

my surprise @ the 1st gift...

my 2nd surprise!

omgomg!

Last year this time....

we are high above in the sky, on our way to our honeymoon :)
Next week this time i would still be at work but at night i will also be flying high above the sky, to go meet the wifey for a 2nd honeymoon.... of sorts....
so what happened yesterday?
well we received a lot of smses from well-wishes which is a surprise to me as i never expected such nice gestures :) Thanks yous alls that sent the smses!
after a long day @ work, met up with the wifey and we proceeded to PS Cafe @ dempsey area for dinner and dessert...
and again.... the place disappoints us... ambience is nice and all but seriously the service could do with a good upgrade. I do understand the concept of "your task is your task" and all that but it wouldn't hurt to just be more observant when your customer is frantically waving his arm to try to attract your attention and you just ignore it as its not your table now would it???
Food was so-so and dessert really expensive... so wifey and i won't be going back again.
That's when wifey gave me my surprise.... a ps3 controller + hdmi cable + Indiana Jones lego game! I was really surprised and mildly amused as she mentioned this was her permission for me to get a pS3. So yay.. i was thinking ok... tomorrow i can go buy a ps3 immediately... set set...
then after dinner, brought her home to pick up stuff for tomorrow and i was like showing the gift to her mom and brother. they were like Wha wha and all that but in hindsight, their "wha"-ing was subdued.
Anyhoo, i went upstairs and the door to her room was surprisingly close. Being the non-suspecting me, i went in and saw her mom in the darkness holding a camera. now i had not noticed the details of the package on her bed so i had assumed she wanted to surprise serene and not me. And thus i closed the door on her and was looking at wifey who was nearby...then she ushered me in (btw mom was like "Hey.. why you close the door....")

NOTE: At this point i am still clueless.....D-uH

so i went in again and they turned on the lights and lo and behold, i see a PS3!!! surrounded by all the soft toys that eugene so patiently arranged.

needless to say i was excited.....
very excited...
after that the whole night i was cracking funny stuff like Kinder Bueno (ask serene to explain this one to you next time *giggle*) and yea generally my face was split by my smile..

i so so so love my wifey :) she can do better surprises than me.. hahahaha

so now i have a new ps3 + blu-ray player to go with the new 47" tv...

why did the chicken cross the road?

http://funmeme.com/archive/2008/06/21/a-different-kind-of-why-the-chicken-crossed-the-road.aspx

*grin*

its a SHE!

LG's latest range of LCD TV is named SCARLET. TV ads are portraying it as the next big female movie/tv star and its as if its not just a tv but a female star in its own right.....
and here is the most unique feature of the tv...

come on, I cannot be the only one that is seeing something wrong with this picture now right?

if you believe, i put a bear on the moon... bear on the moon!

:)

we're leaving... on a jet plane....

yay our "2nd honeymoon" so to speak is coming...
Next week, wifey will be flying off for her course to NY.
Next Next week, we will join her @ NY and begin our 2nd honeymoon. To NY then LV then LA then NY and back to SG.
So exciting!
Best of all, when we return, we will be getting our keys..... and then hopefully after a quick renovation effort, move in by mid or latest end september!
WoW WoW WoW

on another note, i seem to have hit a point in warcrafting after i gotten my ZA bear. As i usually cannot make it for the guild's instance runs, there no longer seems to be any much incentive to go onto WoW unless i happen to get lucky or i get to go za run to help other people get their bear. Hmmm no other new games on the horizon so wonder what will happen now....
oh i got Lost Odeyssey as the graphics are way cool and i hope at least it will be mildly engaging.
What else to look out for? well.... Fallout3 and possibly Warhammer online. Otherwise... hmmm...oh starcraft2 and maybe diablo3. We'll see how..

I think our 2nd half of the year will be very exciting :)
