this is Eric's visual DNA - check it out...

My Visual DNA

squishy in the morning

sat morning wifey's all set to go to her shine course. As we walked out the door, she was putting on her shoes when she let out a squeal and said there was something in the shoe. I looked in a lo-and-behold, i tot i saw dog poo.

Then i flipped the shoe to try to get it out, tinking "How on EARTH can a dog strategically poo in the shoe?" and the thing fell out. It was a caterpillar. And a BIG SQUISHY, FURRY one at that !
EUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

it was still alive though and we carted it out to the dustbin. Now, if it were me, i would have been wearing socks and i probably couldnt have felt the caterpillar.. instead of a squeal? I would have gone

"grunt"
"SQUISH"
"what the....."
"EUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu"

sends shivers into our spines....

poop-- i mean -- puppies !

someone from clubsnap posted pics of his/her miniature schnauzer puppies !! awwwww.....
then just got news from my salsa friend that her dog also recently gave birth. Its spaniel-russell mix though. I wonder how that will turn up like. Asked her for pics but probably me and wifey will go down take a look and let my wifey go wild with the pups :)

Wide-Eyed Wonder

hardly anyone has ever used this word on me.

snuffy hubby, on the other hand, is full of it.

today, however, i've been literally put into a state of WIDE-EYED WONDER.
let me explain...
i went to tan tock seng hospital this afternoon to have my eyes checked for possible lasik surgery.

prior to the appointment, i was told the whole process would take about three to four hours.

i was ushered to this room (right) for the tests.

actually, this is just the part of the room which got me feeling relieved from worrying i'd be whiling my time waiting.

when i arrived, the lasik center was rather empty, save for two macho men, one of who had such thick glasses that he looked almost cartoonish considering his frame!

my first test was to determine my eye power.

and i'm pleased to announce that it hasn't changed since i last went to the optician a few years back, except for the extremely low levels of astigmatism.
the second room was a series of tests, from getting the thickness of your cornea, to the shape of it.

the first of the eyedrops administered was a numbing one, which will be used in the actual surgery as well.

it felt rather weird, having it take effect.

the woman doing the test on me then pushed this pen-like object right into the middle of my eye, and all i could see was a rippling effect, which made me go "ooooh".
think dory of "finding nemo" saying "are you my conscience?"

that was me.

the second of the eyedrops were meant to dilate my pupils, which means i'd be letting a lot of light in.

now that would only wear off in six hours.

all went well, and after the doc shot more bits of light into my dilated pupils, i was given the okay to book a date for the surgery.

and the best part is...my degree is low enough for me to safely take the cheapest alternative! *phew*

but consultation and post-op expenses do cost quite a bit too.

so...if all goes well, i'll be getting pretty much perfect vision in May!

thought's a a little daunting, but ah well...i'm glad the hubby made me go for it.

on a lighter note, the birthday celebration continued last night with the family taking me out to dinner at New York New York at citylink mall.

the food was pretty good though the appetizers could really have been presented in a more...appetizing manner.

we were stuffed by the end of it all and *gasp* had NO ROOM FOR DESSERT!

sad and unlikely with snuffy hubby and me, but true.

i'd love to make up for that sometime over the next two days...though i'd be stuck at SHINE for pretty much the whole of the weekend.

ah well...i'm sure snuffy will be having plenty of fun with his new rig. =)

and eating lotsa ice cream for me too.

i need to cast STEALTH on 070707....

last nite after the dinnner @ hog's breath cafe (hmmm now dats something.. why call it hog's breath? is it because pig's fart would be non-delicious? so wierd.. i wonder if there's like a writeup somewhere that will explain why its named hog's breath..) wifey mentioned that for my birthday will be fun... she has a lot of Gui Zhu Yi (naughty ideas)...

then reflecting upon it this morning ..... i realise

i'm so gonna be tortured on 7th July morning...... HELP! *GULP*

on another note... wifey is playing World of Warcraft with me ! hahahah i am SOoooooooooooooooo excited :) especially now if i can get wh and simon to play with us. THen we can form a team and it will be soooooooooooooooooooooooooo fun !!!!! at least in my mind it is already fun.

hahaha anyone else wanan join us? :P

My First Birthday with Snuffy Hubby =)

my birthday celebrations officially began two weeks ago with a surprise lunch put together by josee.

snuffy hubby had a hand in that plan too, but still decided to do something for me on the actual day - today.

i told him over the weekend that i wouldn't mind being kept in the dark about what he had planned, and so he made the necessary arrangements and i simply had to meet him after work today.

so snuffy brings me to the fullerton hotel and to the asian spa, which was an eye-opener because spas and massages are a first for the both of us!

we had a flower bath and full-body aromatherapy massage, during which i burst into giggles a couple of times because it was just too ticklish.

the scent we chose was an orangey, sunburst one which perked up our senses and kept us going way past the massage and thereafter, dinner.

then to hog's breath cafe we trotted, walking across the cavenagh bridge and past the asian civilisations museum, the arts house, victoria theater, then all the way down to chijmes.

we had thought to snap a picture of the major chunk of steak and mountain of nachos we ordered but had dove into the food so fast we forgot to do so.

so here's a pic of our empty plates, post-dinner massacre.

and of course, the hubby tried to surprise me with a pre-arranged birthday mudcake and sing-a-long session by the staff at hog's breath.

which was a little less of a surprise after the staff laid out the dessert cutlery even when we decided we were too full for dessert.

in any case, it was a wonderful evening. =)

time to head into the shower and crash after.

night world. =)

And Now, Presenting...

our wedding venue. =)

it was by fluke and a stroke of genius that we managed to secure the place, albeit for a mere late morning on the 7th of July.

given how beautiful it is, i was extremely surprised to find that it wasn't FULLY booked yet (they only had the 9am-1pm timeslot free since 2pm-11pm was taken).

and so, we're getting married in the chamber of the arts house@old parliament.
talk about constitution...haha.

i often rave about defying convention because they are simply a way of doing things, not constitution.

so having me and eric (both unconventional in our own forms) tying the knot in the epitome of law-making is irony at its best. =P

come our wedding day, the chamber will be decorated (not that it needs to but we need to conform to at least this) by beng chee, a brother scout from YCSOG.

eric's brotherly team will be made up of his ex-schoolmates and president's scout compatriots, while my maid of honor will be my scout sister, yingli.

the sisterly party will be made up mostly of the salsa girls and boys (who've watched over me for a long while).

our emcees will come from scouts and salsa (two of our varied loves), and our justice of peace will be mr noel hon, president of the singapore scouts.

talk about constitution. =)

Go with the Flow

This is a very interesting read on the concept of THE FLOW. Apparently it is theorized by someone attempting to describe or quantify what happiness is for people in general. Though in this context its talking about computer games, it actually does apply to every aspect of our lives.
In a nutshell, if we don't have enough challenges to challenge our abilities, we get bored. however if we have too much challenges for our abilities, we get anxiety. So a good place to be in would be when challenges match our abilities. For humans however, they found that there's a gray area that expands this "good place" so that humans can accept a rather small level of anxiety or boredom from time to time.

interesting no? :)

Shut up...

every morning now for as long as i've been living in my new place, there's a dog that barks. He barks in the morning ard 5ish before the newspaper man comes. He barks some more when the man comes and leaves.. and then falls strangely slient.
According to mom, the dog is silent throughout the rest of the day.

WHAT THE HELL ???????!?!??!?!?!

The dog wakes up the entire neighbourhood with his barking and then falls silent throughout the day?
what, he stores up the entire day of barking just so to wake us working adults up earlier than our alarm clocks and make us sleepy throughout the rest of the day?
whats up with that?
Apparently my neighbourhood has tolerated this or somehow got used to it.
:(
i am wishing bad things for the dog to happen... i wish i can just reach into his vocal cords and shut it off....

damm silly dog :(

i need good brothers :P

Last fri we had a gathering @ shan's place to celebrate the bd of georgie. hehhe its good to see the gang again and we chatted and laughed and had good food. The cheese sausage is E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T man... if ever u have BBQ ? MUST bbq cheese sausages.... omg..
Yesterday we tried valiently to surprise my wifey with a early bd lunch celebration. As u can tell from her post, she suspected something but did not suspect when and where. So at least we got her there :P Hahah my friend told me that wifey told her that I cannot keep a secret as I will get all gan cheong. Well its mostly true esp with good news (thus one reason for this blog) .. for me good news makes me happy, so why not try to spread it ard and share the good news and make pple happy too? But again, i guess in the real world sometimes its not that simple. humans sure make things complicated...
Whilst during lunch, the gals were asking about how the wedding day will be like,
so i went "oh, i will go there, and i will take 30 mins to get my wifey out...."
to which they all exclaimed " oh nooooooooooo.. won't be so easy wan. at least 1 hr.........."
to which i went "GULP"
ok my brothers to be..... i will need your help liao...

Skimmerinky Dinky Dink...

snuffy hubby just exclaimed "this is heaven" after i looked over, caught his eye, and went over to kiss him. =)

i had the most wonderful surprise from the salsa gang today, thanks to josee for pretending to be late and dragging me around shoe-shopping.

i'd say they did a good job of keeping me in the dark about today...considering how "sharp" i usually am, as pointed out by panda.

i was supposed to meet josee for lunch before my SHINE meeting today and woke up late.

as i was lamenting how i'd meet IT-show traffic along nicoll highway if i took the only straight bus from katong into town, snuffy was offering me suggestions on how to get there...ie. changing two buses and after some more thinking, even offering to send me to the nearest mrt station.

but i was convinced i was going to be late, so decided to take a cab.

i was getting ready to head out when snuffy decided to change into his berms and i was like..."why
are you changing? you're gonna be staying home anyways."

so he walks me out and i grab a cab along the way out to the main road.

i arrived at paragon at noon and called josee, saying that i could just head down to the restaurant to grab a place for us both and she could just meet me there.

she said it was okay and that she wanted to shop for shoes with me before lunch (if i didn't mind!).

and so, i met her and walked around to a couple of shoe shops before she decides it's time for lunch.

she led me to the soba place and i caught a glimpse of panda...and then as we got nearer, i saw the rest of the gang there and SNUFFY HUBBY!!!

so sneaky!

but i loved being able to meet up with the girls and guys who are going to play very important roles on our wedding day.

it was such a pleasantry to meet up with a group of smiling faces
and then to be greeted by a SNUFFY CAKE.

it took me a bloody long time to figure out why there was an elephant on the cake.

after i got it, snuffy hubby tried to explain with...

"because skimmerinky dinky dink, skimmerinky doo..."

i didn't know what he had wanted them to get outta that, but i stepped in and said because the nickname SNUFFY HUBBY had derived from us talking about Sesame Street and Big Bird's friend, Snuffleluffugus. =)

he said he ordered the banana chocolate cake from awfully chocolate right after i exclaimed how cool it was that he had an outlet at his office building.

simon managed to join us after all, albeit after lunch.

but it's nice to have my wedding day sisters and brothers throw me something i totally had no inkling of.

at least not when, or where it'd be. =)

you got me there fellas.

thank you josee, ling, wai hwang, daphne, keng wee, shing ling and simon for doing all these.

and to snuffy hubby for trying his hardest to keep a secret.

HUGS.

and here are some rather overdued pictures...

firstly, of us buying our wedding bands on valentine's day...

snuffy had finally decided he liked them enough to want to put his money down on them.

and here's one of me and my girls from 71A from nancy's wedding.

miss them already.

My Good Friend's Wedding

for those not in the know, i spent a year and a half of my life as a Singapore Girl.

some of us close mates would talk about our job in hushed tones, not wanting to seem like we're bragging about our "glamorous" and literally high-flying jobs.

we also kept it down because the SIA Girl is usually stereotyped to be a ditsy schoolgirl dream slapped on with a ton of make-up.

i to
ok to my job as a flight stewardess with the company with gusto, swearing to defy the stereotype.

unfortunately for me, in being me, i never did quite get along with my batch mates that well, or most of the people i flew with.

i was best trainee from my batch and scored plenty o
f compliment letters, but i wasn't quite the hit with some crew.

until i met the girls from 71A (did i get it right this time? =P).

jenny and i became fast friends because she's so REAL.

she defies the stereotype of the ditsy SIA girl to the max.

jenny's still in the airline and constantly feeds us with the goss
because she's bloody well-informed.

another gi
rl who integrated rather naturally into our merry little gang was tracy.

she was our then junior, together with nancy, and was perpetually paranoid of going on flight.

she was like me, always stressed just before the flight because of
some ridiculous crew we would meet who would give us junior girls a hard time.

it was during a london flight when tracy and i grew closer as team girls.

she was undergoing some rather stressful stuff at home and i was the only other team girl on that flight with her.

we spent most of our stay in london huddled in our rooms, just talking.

she even wrote me a really sweet note, thanking me for being her listening ear.

it'd be a pleasure to have both tracy and jenny present at our wedding later this year.

and the last quarter of our party is nancy, whose wedding dinner was last saturday.

that's where we all caught up and took these photographs.

nancy wasn't just my team mate in 71A.

she was also my junior in my mass communication course (although i really didn't know her then).

she relocated to atlanta with her hubby soon after her church wedding last year, came back for her wedding dinner last week, and will be flying back to atlanta next friday.

it would be fun to have all three of them girls at our wedding but alas, i guess knowing she's happy and that she's happy for me is enough. =)

nancy had arranged for jenny and me to sit with the rest of her batch girls (including tracy), who were all still flying (excluding tracy).

through the whole duration of dinner, jenny and i would exchange glances, smile at each other and she'd say...

"what would i do without you beside me this evening?"

i guess that's a compliment. =P

to this day, i defend my take on the SIA girl.

but i guess it really takes someone who's been in, and out, to actually see through the perfect hair and make-up.

she may not be a bimbo after all.

And Some...

snuffy hubby forgot to mention how much i loved the movie as well.

nevermind the rock hard pecs and physically threatening bodies in loin cloth.

there was plenty of blood and gore, but the cinematography and editing was so bloody brilliant the gory elements simply faded into the background.

the killing was shot in such a beautiful way that it almost looked like the men were dancing instead of spearing their enemies.

the dialogue was surprisingly witty and is a stark contrast to the horribly cliched battle films that've been marketed.

and watch out for the post-movie credits.

the graphics are fantastic.

the last time i felt so overwhelmed by the sheer brilliance of a movie was when i watched sin city.

the artistry.

kinda brings me back to the first time i watched "three kings" and was pleasantly surprised by how they followed the path of a bullet through the victim's body, and then lodging itself into his heart.

considering i'm not a big fan of testosterone-filled machismo, i'm VERY impressed by 300.

Three Hundred - 300

OH
MY
GOD

what a fraking good movie. I was telling my friend that i was going to watch a show where there's blood, gore, hundreds of sweaty semi nude hunks and lots of dismemberment.... a show that will certainly either cause women to go weak in their knees or men to start roaring and grunting..
well....... this show certainly did both. I got weak watching them kill people and the way the film was made/shot.... OMG....OMFG... its certainly worth watching....

and please pansies, don't watch it on small screen, go watch it in the cinema, that's where it will do justice to the show.

GO WATCH IT.
JUST GO WATCH IT.

some very COOL ads :)

omg :=)

nacho heaven :)

Chris Vogt and Schuyler Senft-Grupp, two MIT Engineering alums, fulfilled a "mission from the Nacho Gods," to build "the beast," which was directly inspired by a nacho fountain seen in Talladega NIghts. All it took was 4 gallons of water, 6 feet of copper tube, 1 plumber's torch, 4 hose clamps, 4 plastic bowls, 1 aluminum water heater drip pan, 1 emergency drill pump, 1 power drill, various PVC bits, some string, 2 heating plates, 1 wooden spoon, several bags of chips, and of course, 6 gallons of cheese. Three days and six hours later, "the beast" came to life, overflowing with nacho goodness for Vogt, Senft-Grupp, and a posse of fellow nacho-lovers to worship / devour.
Talk about overdose :P but I'm pretty sure wifey and me will enjoy this whilst watching movies

i feel the earth... move... under my feet...

i am amused by this bit:

The shock was felt in Singapore, rarely hit by quakes, causing hundreds of people, some of them weeping and screaming, to evacuate high-rise offices.
There were no reports of damage or injuries in the city-state.
Singapore office worker Nicholas Wong said he felt the shaking.
"We grabbed our bags and just evacuated," he told local radio. "Everyone was panicking. One of my colleagues was crying because she had never felt such an effect before. We were all rushing out of the building."

good lord.... i even felt it was kinda fun hehehe..

while i did see opposite blocks spew out people all on the ground floor and stuff, i am pretty sure there werent screams or weeping pple. My colleagues felt amused too by the whole swaying building effect...

Riding the Waves

i refuse to use time as an excuse anymore.

if i want something, i should work for it.

things won't fall into place simply by waiting it out.

i can feel the angst seeping out from under my skin.

enough of trying to coax the bull over.

time to grab it by the horns and fling him to the where i want him to land.

if it's all a matter of "time", then i'd want to get on time's good side.

i hate to feel like i've brought it all upon myself.

but i guess i have.

for starters, perhaps i should save up enough to change the airconditioning at home to maintain my stay there without having to contend with a screeching aircon unit in the middle of the night.

A new beginning...

1st day at my new co. Involve moving around several different areas spanning a few floors to see the various operations of my new co. My current seat now faces ORQ (One Raffles Quay) on the 25th floor which is quite cool. Though in the morning the sun shines in and it gets quite warm.

Surprisingly though, the co is not quite IT friendly. Sigh.. especially for an IT person like me, its gonna be a hinderance to my work.. :(

wifey's going through lotsa rollercoaster rides... and our biggest adventure of our lives have not even officially begun yet!

I want the rollercoasters to stop... i just want us to be happy ....

and i do know that what we want will all fall into place....

now its just a matter of timing ...

You Love Him To Bits Because...

we were both feeling rather lethargic yesterday, especially after having woken up at 0600 hrs to send his brother off to perth.

i was feeling slightly low because several things were wearing me down, plus i had to curb my enthusiasm before some potentially good viewings.

after the airport, we headed back for a nap.

as i was lying there feeling crappy, snuffy hubby comes up from behind and hugs me, turns me over and yells...

GERONIMO!

not in the "let's kick their asses" kinda way but sorta like a little kid learning how to say the word, mouthing syllable by syllable.

i couldn't laugh because i was so close to tears, so i cried instead.

he's just too adorable.
